Notes: Imperial Milk Stout with Dark Matter Coffee, milk sugar, cacao nibs, vanilla beans, & almond.

Biscotti Karate is a fudge-forward, almondy, chocolatey, beer that features coffee from Dark Matter Coffee. It's like dipping a 'scotti in your favorite cup of coffee... but if that coffee was also a beer. Before we add any of the good stuff (vanilla, coffee, etc...) we start with a complex malt bill that is focused on low-roast chocolate malts to ensure a full-flavor, full-bodied Imperial Stout. The coffee plays perfectly with the gentle character from the malt.

Biscotti Karate is a sweet coffee stout with no bitterness. This beer satisfies that breakfast stout need that other breweries miss on. Top offering from Pipeworks.

Released 1/17/20; drank 4/11/20 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small tan head; strong, frothy lace.

Milk chocolate, mild almond & faint vanilla & light roast coffee bean notes in the nose.

Thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Same flavor notes as the nose, but perhaps dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, some fresh earth & no coffee.

This was OK, but hardly pastry stout perfection.

Black in color with no penetration to light. A faint wisp of brown is around half of the rim. I smell coffee, lactose, almond, and chocolate. I’m tasting cold brew coffee, vanilla, lactose, and chocolate. The mouth is dense and chewy.

16oz can. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It smelled of coffee, chocolate fudge and almonds. Sweet chocolate taste with nutty notes and roasted coffee finish.

T - Chocolate cocoa with slight chocolate bitterness on the back end.

M - Thick and creamy soft with a slight sharp warming edge.

O - Recommended.

16oz can, date stamped 12/18/19. Near black body with a thin tan head that disappears quickly. Aroma is sweet with a mixture of chocolate, vanilla, almond extract, coffee, and a bit of roasted barley. Sweet flavors and very chocolatey with notes of vanilla, cacao, fudge, coffee, almond extract, lactose, molasses, caramel, and toffee. Full & creamy body, cloyingly sweet at times, alcohol is well concealed, finish is sweet. Interesting idea, but too sweet for me and I wouldn't get it again.

Pours black, moderately thick with some quickly-dissipating fizz. Strong almond and cookie dough on the nose, with coffee joining the fray immediately upon sipping. Great execution of the concept, a dessert-styled coffee milk stout without being super cloying.
