I sometimes get mad at Pipeworks because they charge too much for ales that other brewers make for, say, 20% less. But Pipeworks is more than a master of marketing. As The Other Side proves, IMHO, they are master brewers in all three traditions.
The Other Side has Looks only slightly better than in its competition (besides with a name like that, who wants attraction to that?) Smells are better than average, full fruit medley. But somehow the Tastes show a very full understanding of the style's gentle sweetness that has just enough hops/herbs to check the sweet. Most important, this Biere de Garde pairs well at the table. The ales finishes balanced and clears the palate for more food. Pipeworks really understands the intent of this ale.
I've been more harsh on Pipeworks than they deserve given their success. Since they are over-priced in two styles I rarely drink anymore (AIPAs and AISs), I suppose I should bury the hatchet and give them a some decent OA Hugs. Cheers !
5/30/22. On Memorial Day, I bought this thinking "Oh, a saison from Pipeworks! Maybe I will like them again." But of course, I had forgotten that I had Other Side two years earlier. (So maybe we should call this mid-term memorial day... scratch that.) I've edited the above review and bumped it up considerably for past errors of judgment. See you on The Other Side, counting @ UnTappd.

I love how pipeworks are always doing something different and this is no different.
A: A hazy and murky orange
A: Nothing really jumps out but it does have some malt sweetness and some fruit esters.
T: Follows the aroma with a nice mix of bready malt sweetness and some earthiness as well.
F: Lingers well with a chalky finish.
O: Another really solid beer from one of my favorite breweries. Happy I can find them in Madison.

16oz can, date stamped 04/22/20. Clouded amber colored body has a thick and frothy beige head that holds good retention. Spicy aroma with bready malt & yeast and a nice fruitiness. Sweeter flavors with notes of plum, grain, caramel, bread crust, white grape, tart apple, spicy/bready yeast, and earthy/herbal hops. Fuller body, ample carbonation, dry and modestly bitter finish with earthy bitterness lingering. Good for something different.

16oz can. Poured out a clear, amber color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of plum, bready malt and floral notes. Sweet toffee with plum, caramel and subtle spices.
