From the 16 oz can in a snifter. This solid little brew pours a nice opaque
with a decent head of light brown foam that settles to a thick ring, thin
faint layer, and sports slight lacing. Nose shows notes of vanilla, cream,
dark coffee, dark chocolate, and dark sweet cherries. Flavors hit the
mark but exceed with a presentation of dark cherry, vanilla, cream, brulee,
dark coffee, char, dark chocolate, and mixed berries on the finish. Mouth feel
is medium full verging on full, smooth, very coating, rich, faint carbonation,
and a bitter malt finish.

Overall----solid but lacking in mouthfeel which is a bit light for the style.

The last of four cans I bought when it arrived unheralded but very welcome in the Twin Cities, so I suppose a review is in order. 16 oz. can.

Blacker than an Otterbox. No carb evident via eyeballing. Nose reports bourbon, chocolate, good things.

Phantom Unicorn is a worthy entry to the pastry stout genre. Thick, sweet, dripping malts interact confidently with the milky lactose & vanilla that piles on the sweetness. Bourbon rears up on its hind legs & takes over the mid-palate with no boozy backhand; nice trick, that. Chocolate fills in the necessary corners. Big cans: good call.

A Split Infinity win. Stile would be proud. Excellent beer. Delighted Pipeworks barrel program is on the rebound. Send more our way!

Pours a thick chestnut/mahogany with minimal mocha colored head. Viscous, zero head retention & lacing

S: Tons of dark fruit, oak, vanilla & booze

T: Dark cherry, figs, raisins, raw oakyness, molasses & cocoa nibs up front. Dark cherry, woody hops, a little vanilla & oakyness as this warms. Finishes, with dark chocolate, vanilla, carob, molasses & leafy hops & figs

MF: Super chewy, near zero carbonation, warming

Quality BA Imp Stout, would prefer to many hyped BA stouts out there. Not sure how it will hold up in the can for aging, but great right now! ABV is there, but layered through so much flavor

Pours jet black from the pint can, even an aggressive pour yields only a thin layer of head. Looks a bit syrupy. Smells rich and chocolatey, with plenty of booze and hints of coconut, Maltesers, and cream. Lightly carbed, with some emerging tannins on the palate alongside everything that hit the nose. Spiked chocolate milk. I'm not a big pastry stout fan, and this is just on the cusp of being too much for me, but it's very well done.

Appearance - The beer poured a deep black color with an off-white head crowning the pour.

Smell - There was a lot of sweet cocoa in the nose. The booze was also detectable.

Taste - My first thought was cold hot chocolate. The profile was super chocolatey with hints of vanilla, a touch of spice, and warming bourbon. The chocolate carried to the finish.

Mouthfeel - With little carbonation, the body was smooth and a bit thin.

Overall - Pipeworks nailed another barrel aged beer.

Yeah I'm thinking pipeworks ba program is back. Brownish black body with a dark brown head. Really pleasant molasses, bourbon, vanilla and chocolate nose. Taste has great oak to go with the bourbon, molasses, sweet vanilla accenting semi-sweet chocolate, and a hint of wet earth. Feel is warm, super smooth and frothy, a touch of sweetness makes itself known on the finish more as it warms, but has good balance, drinks much lighter and cooler than the abv.

Looks: Aggressive pour produced a moderate tan head that quickly dissipated to some wispy foam clouds with a thin ring around the edge. Thick syrupy lace on the glass. Pitch black liquid.
Smell and Taste: Sweet and heavy on the lactose sugar and well balanced with the vanilla and cacao. Must be some maple syrup in there somewhere.
Feel: Thick and oily. Very low on the carbonation but at 14.3% ABV you will feel real good after you finish one on these babies.
Overall: This is one bad boy. Glad I'm at home indulging in this brew. If I was out somewhere I would probably need a designated driver LOL.

Moderate body for 13 percent. Of course pours black. Thin mocha head.

Bourbon sweetness, vanilla, hint of cocoa. Not the biggest or most complex, but a pretty solid stout.

Pipeworks is a a sleeper in the barrel aged game. Their releases are under the radar and I feel like they really deliver. Phantom Unicorn is a super sticky, rich bourbon stout. It is warm, boozy, and more indulgent than I was expecting. The process is done the right way and I can’t wait for more BA from Pipeworks.

Received from @fbarber in the NBS BIF #14. Canned on 6/14/2021. Poured into a stemless stout glass. It pours a deep, inky walnut color - almost black. The medium mocha-colored head fizzled away rapidly. leaving minimal lacing. On the nose there is roasted malt, caramel, char, just a whiff of anise, and distinct bourbon notes. The bourbon dominates the initial taste. It's fairly sweet with a heavy roasted malt base. There is also a strong presence of burnt coffee, nutty char, and tobacco. Let it warm and the flavors develop nicely. The mouth feel is fairly rich and creamy with lite carbonation, and there is no getting around the 14.3% ABV which you can feel from the first sip. Overall, Phantom Unicorn is not exactly subtle but it is effective. It really mellows out as you sip it. Very nicely done!

Smell: rich oaky vanilla, roasty, some bourbon.
Taste: much like the nose. Creamy richness, very easy drinker.

Canned 8/14/21; drank 9/13/21 @ the Yarchives.

Black appearance.

A rough pour yielded a small, noisy dark tan head which quickly dissipated; no lace.

Oak, bourbon heat, dark chocolate, marshmallow & cream notes in the nose.

Thick, sticky mouthfeel.

Dark chocolate & strong bourbon heat flavors up front; cream, sweet marshmallow & dry oak notes on the finish.

Boozy, sticky & sweet; this is a bold beer, for sure, but it's not overly pleasant. Not one I'll seek out again.
