Poured into a large mug, it does the reverse cascade for about two seconds, has a head of tan foam for about a minute more. Soon enough there's no foam at all as it audibly fizzles away. Glassy obsidian surface.

Pleasant coffee and vanilla aromas, hazelnut and mild and well integrated. It has a light brownie sweetness as well.

Coffee is noticeable, fairly mellow with very little bitterness initially. Some light dry bitterness does come through in the aftertaste along with lingering vanilla traces. Mellow roast, easygoing flavors.

Smooth feel and light bodied, though somehow this is thinner and less creamy than Jones Dog... huh. Still it's pretty tasty.

On-tap at Goose Island Stoufest. Served in the matching taster glass.

A - A thin tan foam settles to a thin collar and spotty lace. Dark brown body.

S - Big coffee and vanilla, light cocoa, some yeast, a bit of earthy roast and smoke. Pretty potent for the ABV.

T - Taste isn't quite as good. The vanilla seems a tad artificial, and the coffee yields some bitterness and astringency. There's good flavor from the coffee, vanilla, cocoa, and roasted malts in here, but this is a bit rough around the edges.

M - Medium body, dry and roasty texture. Not a big beer by any stretch, but plenty hefty for the listed 6.5% ABV. Carbonation was lower but adequate. No obvious alcohol.

D - A pretty easy drinking beer that could use a few tweaks to take it to the next level. I'll update my review when I try a bottle down the road, as I'm hoping the Pipeworks guys work out the kinks.

EDIT (5/6/12): Just had this out of the bottle and it was moderately improved.
A - +0.5, S - +0.5
Pour featured increased head volume and retention while the aroma had more 'pop' and depth to it. Taste had a bit too much char and burnt coffee, and feel was too thin for the 7.5% marked on the bottle version. Still, progress...
