Taste: Bold, bittersweet chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, not very sweet, dark malts, tobacco, toasted milk, dry, boozy. Same with the spicy nose. Black, opaque, tan delicate lace and head. Full body. Black coffee character.

Solid milk stout. Smell is coffee and dark chocolate with hints of vanilla. Taste is all of that plus roasted malt, earthy tones, dark fruit and hazelnut. Well balanced, good contrasting sweet and roasted elements, just a really slid beer through and though

Most recent batch, obtained directly from the Dojo. Pours nearly black, medium viscosity, little fizzing and no retention. The coffee is evident on the nose but not overpowering. Chocolate milk with a touch of cold-brew on the flavor profile, light and easy-drinking as a good milk stout should be. Moderately low carbonation, smooth and moderately thin body. Really enjoyable; I was surprised to see this with an average below 4 when I pulled it up to rate.

Had on tap at The Dojo. Decent beer but just not in my wheelhouse. Appropriately light and easy pub style ale with decent flavors. Well made.
Style is just too lightweight for me. Despite a bit ok ABV... it still came across as a small beer in the classic sense.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a mug glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a medium beige head that fades slowly and leaves a thick lace on the glass.

S: The aroma is contains milk chocolate, coffee, rich roasted malts, some licorice and a touch of hops.

T: The taste starts out sweet with flavors of dark fruit, licorice, milk chocolate and coffee. Then a hearty roasted malt character comes in. The hops presence is mild but complementary and brings a very good balance. The after-taste is slightly sweet and slightly bready.

M: Crisp and very smooth, medium body, medium carbonation, finish is slightly sticky.

O: Tasty, goes down very easily, not too filling, good kick, good representation of style, this is a nice stout to drink for a long time if you’re in the mood for the style.

11/9/15 bottle

Pours a dark shiny black color. Thick tan colored head initially dissipates leaving a thin tan head, thicker on the outer rim.

Aroma has notes of coffee, lactose, milky sweetness, and some chocolate. Very subdued aroma, coffee is light on the nose, but that could be mainly the fault of how old this bottle was when I found it.

Taste has notes of some coffee up front giving way to the noticeable sweet milkiness of the lactose. Finishes with bitter cacao, chocolate and roasted malts. Some vanilla notes are noticed mainly in conjunction with the lactose - it has a vanilla custard like flavor to it. The flavor is nothing special, but its pretty well done. I do have to think the coffee has fallen off in this one. Its not super noticeable in the flavor beyond some initial coffee like notes. The coffee is rather bitter at this point, which knowing pipe works other coffee beers is not the norm. Drink this one fresh!!

Feel is pretty carbonated - very prickly the tongue initially. Maybe a bit much for the style. Smooth and silky. Very drinkable - but a bit on the light side.

Overall a solidly good milk stout from Pipeworks. Its not anything special, but its certainly a tasty and drinkable milk stout. I'll need to revisit this one fresh when they release a new batch.
