A - Pours a vey hazy orange/brown with one and a half fingers of white head. Head has good retention and leaves some decent lacing.

S - Lots of juicy citrus, with oranges being most prominent. Faint marmelade aroma with a nice hop presence and some white grape. The coriander aroma is pretty subtle.

T - Interesting and enjoyable. Tastes a bit like a hoppy witbier. Very nice citrus taste, with coriander being a nice compliment. Seems to be a Belgian yeast presence, though I don't know if this is brewed with a Belgian yeast strain. Whatever it is, this is really tasty.

M - Medium mouthfeel with a bit of earthy dryness bitterness in the finish.

O - My first beer from Pipeworks, and I am impressed. This seems like hybrid of English IPA and witbier and it really works well. Looking forward to trying more from them.

22oz, Batch #83 1/7/13
Riedel unmarked tulip

A: Cloudy dark yellow/orange like color. About a half finger of loose bubbles bright white head. Nice carbonation with tiny bubbles streaming up sides of the glass. Some lacing sheeting.

S: Definitely getting those Nelson hops, that white grape like wine-ish scent. Not getting the coriander but certainly some citrus and orange peel. Not much malt character.

T: Tip of the tongue, you get those Nelson hops and some pine like bitterness too. That white grape is certainly evident. You do get a touch of a spice bill that wasn't as pronounced on the nose, so maybe that coriander. That citrus sweetness comes through as well. Close is crisp and light and somewhat dry. Nice summer brew for sure.

M: It's a light medium, because of the nice carbonation.

22 oz bomber, batch number 53, poured into a tulip glass.

A- Pours a weird looking murky yellowish copper, the color is strange for an IPA but it's not a big deal, topped with a finger of white head that leaves nice sheets of lacing.

S- Some hops, a bit of fruit and grapes, malt is light and bready.

T- Subdued earthy hop flavors, some spice and orange. Has a considerable grape skin flavor towards the finish, which is quite tannic and actually a bit tart. Some light bready malt.

M- Medium-bodied, has a smooth feel with a very dry, vinous/tannic feel to the finish, very interesting.

O- An interesting beer, the hop profile is really unique, although I easily prefer NvU or Blood of the Unicorn.

22 oz bomber, batch number 37, poured into a tulip glass.

A- Pours a hazy yellow hay color into the glass, with, in my batch, a lot (three fingers) of dense tight white foam that slowly drops into the beer, leaving a patchwork of sea foam style lacing.

S- A muted hop signature, but pleasing. A little orange in the citrus aroma.

T- Strong, earthy hop signature when the brew hits the tongue, lots of bitterness as it rolls back torward the tongue. Some bread and astringency in the aftertaste. Lots of carbonation, but not unpleasant.

M- Medium body, I get a lot of hop oils on the tongue.

O- An interesting and worthwhile beer from a new brewer in Chicago.

22 oz bottle served in a Great Divide cervoise. Batch #37.

A: Pours a hazy apricot color with a two finger height of white head forming on the pour. It recedes to a thick cap and collar that leave sticky splotches of lace down the glass.

S: Definitive white grape with some rind and pithy bitterness. Slight dried grass with some honey malt sweetness.

T: Grassy with some sweet honey malts. White grape with a subtle, under ripe greenness to it. The Nelson Sauvin hops really add a nice dryness to the beer.

M: Light bodied with a medium to high carbonation level. Subtle drying finish with some sweet green grape to it.

O: Not really an English style, but I don't really care. It's a really well put together beer that hits it on all levels, especially with the addition of the Nelson Sauvin hops. I'm looking forward to more beers from the PW guys with these nice New Zealand hops.
