Style: American Double / Imperial Stout

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 10.50%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
This was the very first Abduction - the first time the extraterrestrials got a taste of a rich, roasty, chocolatey Imperial Stout with subtle bittering hops. This specific batch is an overhaul of the original recipe. We've upped the roasty character, and brewed it bigger, and richer with a slight kiss of orange peel at the end of the boil. Be Warned: the little green men will be quick to beam this off of shelves to enjoy on their home planet.

Appearance: pours jet black. Somewhat sticky, leaving some brown behind as I swirl it around. A small centimeter tan head that sticks around for ages and leaves a lacing on the sides. Completely opaque and dark.

Smell: strong coffee and rich dark chocolate. Lots of dark malt complexity, ranging from roasty, to dark caramels to dark fruit. Small alcohol bite.

Taste: opens up with bold espresso flavor. Quickly expands into a rich dark chocolate flavor. Roasted malts and burnt caramel. Small amounts of dark fruit. End has some strong but not over powering booze.

Mouthfeel: on the heavy side but not quite the heaviest. Lots of bitterness coming from the coffee and burnt flavors. Some alcohol astringency and heat. All the said it is very drinkable

Overall: even though I think the coffee is overly strong, I still think this is a very good almost great beer. Lots of bold and harsh flavors. I can't imagine what coffee break abduction is like though

A big, creamy imperial stout. Pretty straightforward in smell and taste. Roasted malts, hints of coffee and chocolate, and contrary to what I've seen in other reviews, only a touch of alcohol in the taste. The beauty of this is the rich, creamy mouthfeel. Very dense. Not the most unique imperial stout, but an outstanding version with all the classic characteristics.
