love the combo of coffee and vanilla beans in dark beers. I like the bitter/sweet balance this combo can bring when pulled off.

L: jet black beer with white/off white lacing. nice head retention.

S: expecting a big coffee hit here, and really sort of disappoints. not fresh brewed coffee or beans, more like slight earthy funk. Not very fragrant in general. a faint booze whiff at the end is there.

T: nice smack of booze, chocolate, and caramel up front. well balanced. Not much of a vanilla coffee suggestion here. the beer underwhelms despite the initial caramel sweetness.

F: slick/oily mouthfeel, good carbonation and balance.

O: This one is ok or decent, but not one I'd buy again, especially for the format/price. It's slightly better than average or middle of the road. I'd seek out other coffee or vanilla dark beers if I could, there are far better options out there.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into a snifter.
Appearance- thick black sits in the glass with a few tiny bubbles coming up along the sides to form a very thin ring of caramel colored head. Lacing is spotty at best.
Smell - a hint of bakers chocolate, vanilla and I'm picking up a touch of ancho chili.
Taste - sweet and bitter chocolate, and the ancho is still there along with some roasted coffee that finally makes an appearance.
Feel - very odd blend of sweetness, bitterness and spice. At 10.5 ABV, the booze isn't all that detectable, likely because I'm focused on the wild interaction elsewhere.
Overall - I feel like this is a bust, however, there are some unique qualities that I'm just not used to that leads me to believe I'm being closed minded.

Pours black with a one inch tan head that dissipated quickly and left a ring of lacing. Smell is predominately coffee and roasted malts with notes of vanilla and chocolate. Tastes follows the nose with coffee being first and foremost and the additional note of a mild cream sweetness. Full bodied, thick mouth feel, lightly carbonated. ABV well hidden, a very good beer however it is a little heavier on the coffee than most.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a quarter finger high tan head that died down, leaving some wisps of bubbles on the surface and a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of coffee beans are present in the nose; these become stronger as the beer warms up.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste has lots of flavors of cold brew coffee along with notes of vanilla beans and hints of roasted malts. The coffee and vanilla linger into the finish. Little if any bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels a bit more than medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is quite drinkable because it does a very good job at hiding any traces of alcohol from the taste.

22oz. bomber into a Surly teku. Shared with schen9303.

Nose is espresso, chocolate, coca cola and chewy fudge. Solid. Beer is chocolate, roast, fudge, coca cola and espresso and mocha in the back. Sweet with overtones of molasses and tobacco. Syrupy at the finish. Medium to full bodied in the mouth and smooth and rich going down if with a little more carbonation than is appropriate.

I'd love to try the other Abduction variants as this is very solid. I'd like a little more coffee but ultimately, this is a beer worth trying.
