Coffee and vanilla bean stout? Yes please! Big thanks to Liamt07. Batch 169 is the best I can make out the handwritten #.

Appearance. Pours quite black and a bit viscous but not that deep oily black you sometimes see with this type of beer. It's topped with a half finger of orangy-khaki head that fades to a ring fairly quickly.

Smell. Slightly astringent dark roasted coffee with a small shot of rum and hints of vanilla. Smells appealing but not knocking it out of the park.

Taste. Sweetened coffee, light burnt sugar and molasses. Slight bitterness in the end from the dark roasted coffee and some lingering vanilla notes (though I wouldn't have guessed it as an ingredient). Alcohol pretty well hidden.

Mouthfeel. Full body, creamy low carbonation. Very nice.

Overall. A good coffee stout I'd happily drink again. Would make a fantastic breakfast beer.

Pipeworks Coffee Break Abduction.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a CBS snifter. Served at cellar temperature.

A) Coffee black with a nice tan head. The head had better retention than I anticipated, as this slowly settled to a collar. This has some feet.

S) Fresh ground coffee, roasted malt, cocoa, vanilla bean, and a splash of milk. Very nice aroma...

T) Follows the nose... This beer has a pleasant sweetness, but the fresh coffee and perhaps a little hops give it enough balance for my tastes. The drinkability is off the charts. The 10.5% ABV is ridiculously well hidden.

M) A soft supple full bodied brew with lighter carbonation. This is so smooth. You combine the smoothness with the hidden alcohol, and this goes down with dangerous ease. Nice aftertaste too.

O) Quite frankly.... I need more Pipeworks beer in my life. Enjoyed this start to finish.
