This epic battle is exhausting The Unicorn. He's been at it fighting all sorts of creatures, spirits, beings from other worlds and other dimensions. If there's one thing The Unicorn hates, it's sadness. If there's another one thing The Unicorn hates, it's exhaustion. It is time The Unicorn made all others regret the day, they began this epic battle! With an intense and unexpected juicy and floral combination that can only come with generous amounts of New Zealand hops.

Bottled late fall 2014; drank 11/11/14 @ the Yarchives.

Semi-opaque orange/red rust hue.

Big-off white head; frothy lace.

Sweet honey, citrus, fresh cut grass & fresh flowers in the nose.

Medium thin mouthfeel.

Tons of sweet honey flavor up front with a mild orange citrus backbone.

These are flavors I seek out in a DIPA, but the sweetness crosses over into cloying here. Close but no cigar.

No sign of a bottling date, shame on you Pipeworks.

A: Pours a mostly-clear light orange. Very tall and frothy tan head. Head fades slowly, leaving fairly heavy chunks of lacing behind.

S: Citrusy with a side of tropical fruit. Light bready notes. It's been months since I've had a beer so I'm sure I'm rusty.

T: Hops are bristly and sharp but the flavor is surprisingly less bold. Again, citrus and tropical fruit. Beer may be old, who knows but it doesn't have that distinct stale hop flavor yet. I'd say 2-4 months old. Fairly sweet, this is 10% after all. Lots of breadiness and then some citrus and flowers on the back end.

M: Medium-heavy and slightly harsh from the hops.

O: Nice DIPA but I suspect a bit old, which definitely detracts from a beer like this. Quite good regardless.

Hazy appearance, oranges and clover on the nose and tongue. A bit thin and not as drinkable as I was hoping for. Good, but I expected better from Pipeworks, especially considering Ninja vs Unicorn is always great.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter. Mildly hazy amber color with a medium-sized white head. Nice lacing and retention. Great aroma out of the bottle on the pour, with candied oranges, pineapple, and tropical fruit. The tropical notes were there on the palate, featuring pineapple and tangerine. A sturdy malt backbone that was bready and dry but not harsh. I was impressed with the drinkability of this 10% DIPA compared to others (Hopslam). Well done.

22 ounce bottle into a snifter. Bottled 10/13/16, had 11/10/16.

Pours a medium amber/orange, lightly hazy, with a one inch head of thick foam, and a ring of foamy cling that increases as it warms. The smell is orange, grapefruit and pineapple citrus hops, yeast. A little pine, some dankness. The taste opens up a little more, with malt, pineapple, grapefruit and lighter orange citrus hops. Then malt, some caramel, pine- but it's not as dank as the nose, light alcohol. Smooth, well carbonated, refreshing. A little lighter bodied than the usual Pipeworks DIPA.

A great aroma and good flavor, lots of hops and enjoyable. Another big effort from Pipeworks.
