22oz, April 2013
Batch #136
Plastic cup tailgate style

A: Pours orange amber. Off white head. Soapy head. Not great carb.

S: Pine. Citrus. Lime. Sweetness.

T: Piney. Not overly bitter. Strange oily lime flavors. Sweet malts. Lingering lime character, dry close. Drinks less than abv says.

M: Medium bodied.

22 oz. bottle served in a Pipeworks snifter. Batch #136.

A: Pours a golden orange color with a chilled haze. A white head forms on the pour and recedes to a thick collar of foam. Sticky sheets of lace are left down the glass.

S: Big notes lime zest and juice. Slightly sweet sugar covered lemon with a grassy hop undertone.

T: Big citrus notes. Mostly lime flesh and zest with a little bit of lemon. There is a slight sour pucker courtesy of the lime, like from a strong margarita. Nice cracker malt balances it out.

M: Medium to light bodied with a zesty and sweet finish. Mediumish carbonation.

O: Super zesty. There is no shortage of lime flavor in this one so if you enjoy that flavor then you'll really enjoy this beer. Exactly what you expect.

Bright sunshine yellow, soft textured white foam, sharp clarity.

Dank aroma when opened, floral and green, definite Sorachi Ace lemon tea note.
Citrusy taste, lime is there, citrus peel bitterness. Medium bodied, pretty drinkable and moderately bitter with a dry lingering aftertaste, got Sorachi in there again. Nice concept, more balanced lime in the aroma and taste may improve some, but it's nice as it is. I squeeze limes on just about everything, so this is definitely appealing. 2nd time trying this (PW's 2nd batch) it seemed a little more citrusy and balanced, good stuff.

22 oz bottle into Founders glass

Was excited to see minimal reviews for this after I bought it because I didn't realize it was so new. Pipeworks is brand new out here in McHenry county so I figured everyone else had already tried this one.

Not much head on the pour but the lacing sticks around for awhile. Nice copper color that is a bit hazy, perhaps from the lime.

Smell is citrus with the lime right there in your face. Not entirely appealing but decent. Bit of pine as well.

Taste is very citrusy with some pine with no bitter back end like a lot of IPA's have. Very smooth all the way through. Lime is really noticeable and almost artificial tasting which kind of turns me off but it grows on me as I work through the beer.

Mouth is great on this one, very happy in the mouth. Perfect carbonation and body.

Overall this one grew on me a LOT over the course of the 2 hours it took me to drink (40 min I had to step away to deal with police for stolen got shoes/balls stolen from the park). I actually dig it a lot more near 60 degrees or so, not so much when it was cold. If you can milk this long enough it almost seems like it evolves in the glass. While I won't say this is one of my favorite Pipeworks offerings, it is certainly interesting and one I might pick up again in the future just to see if I get anything else out of it.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle into a Pipeworks snifter.

A- pours a nice honey color with a 1 finger white head. Some blotches and trails of lacing remain on the glass.

S- light honey, nice natural lime aroma, but not picking much else out over the lime.

T- pale malts, some citrus and decent amount of lime juice but doesn't overpower the beer. Slight spice with a light pine bitterness.

M- medium body and carbonation. Very drinkable and crisp.

O- another good ninja/unicorn series beer. The lime is definitely there but isn't so overpowering that you get just lime. Not my favorite of the series but still a solid beer.

22oz bomber poured into a snifter. Excited to get my hands on a bottle of this one. The handwritten batch number is not legible.

A- Pours a cloudy and light orange/ amber color. A small amount of white head quickly fades to the sides of the glass. I note some lacing along the sides too.

S- Sweet citrus notes stick out more than anything. I also get some lime of course and some sweet malts.

T- Starts off very smooth and sweet before giving way to some pine and citrus notes. Orange, grapefruit and overall citrus is noted most with the hops. The lime is very noticeable and quite powerful in the back of each sip.

M- Medium bodied, refreshing, bitter, easy drinking, almost tart with the lime.

A nice collaboration beer. After awhile the lime gets to be a bit much but this beer is very refreshing and easy to drink.
