750mL bottle poured into a brandy snifter. This one has a relatively thin, soapy, beige head which dissipates quickly to a wispy layer on top of a deep cola brown body - which is fairly transparent for an imperial stout. The lacing is very spotty and runny; I think it’s fair to say that this one doesn’t lace. Dark fruit aromas come through with some strength including - as advertised - cherry accompanied by plum and strawberry (maybe some peach too). There’s also a mellow earthy-truffle, milky cheese (mozzarella comes to mind) aroma competing with the sweet fruits. Some background notes include spice (anise?), vanilla bean ice cream, and alcohol. It’s sweet, no denying that. A heavy dose of cherry and milk chocolate sweet. This starts to turn to a bitter dark chocolate with, perhaps, some very light, mild, spicy hop bitterness, but as soon as it starts to come on strong (both chocolate and spice), the bitterness is washed away by a fatty/umami which I chalk up to the truffles. Dark chocolate starts to take over more as it warms up adding a bit more bitter to compliment the sweet. It strikes me as a "dessert" beer. For an imp stout, this beer is notably thin and light bodied, but it is extremely sticky - felt like I had to wash my face afterwards, but then again, maybe I should take that as a wake-up call that I’m a slob. There’s a trace amount of carbonation which becomes non existent further into the drink. At the end, we’re left with a chocolate and dark-fruit-sweet aftertaste. It’s definitely unique, and better than some of the more viscerally negative reviews I’ve read. An interesting flavor combination; not necessarily a "homerun," but not a strikeout either. Might to an interesting one to take up the label’s suggestion and cellar for a year or so to see how the flavors evolve.

Pours opaque, black in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is big chocolate--BOSCO and baker's chocolate with a little bit of dark cherry and vanilla...slight medicine taste. Roasty, heavy bodied with low carbonation...Was expecting a lot more cherry taste. Not bad as a straight stout, but decent...Have several other beers from Pipeworks I prefer.

Awesome they brewed this will vanilla beans also. Pours ruby tinged dark brown and sits midnight black in the glass with a creamy, dark mocha-brown head. The cherry does not pop out intensely in the aroma, but it is definitely there. Big dark chocolate bitterness and some medium roast coffee beans. The vanilla addition yields more of a milk chocolate and lighter roast coffee. The cherry blends very well - a tart and sweet cherry presence cuts through the chocolate and coffee. As it warms it all jells better and surprisingly some citrus hoppiness that come through. The vanilla is not noticeable on its own, but it's influence is felt through each flavor. Alcohol is completely hidden.

Awesome addition to the abduction crew!

Batch 517-520
Dark brown pour with minimal wispy flat cola top.

Aroma of charred oaky vanilla. Scant sourball cherry candy. Dark chocolate.

Bitter charred vanilla on the arrival. Dark chocolate. Sour cherry juice on the finish.

Light effervescence. Medium body. Dark cocoa bitterness in the mouth.

Overall decent enough. Not just Pipeworks but these cherry stouts with little influence are tiring. It says cherry-the guy has a cherry for a brain-give me cherry dammit. Drink it for the ABV and again, a decent enough stout.
