Rolled in with the family on a Sat. lunch on a road trip, we opened the place and it slowly gather parties over lunch but remained pretty quiet for the size. Looks like they sometimes have live music out back. Food took a bit (we were in and out in an hour) but once it showed up everyone was very happy with their meal. Pizza, chicken sandwich, fish and chips, and chicken fried chicken were all top notch. Got the sampler and enjoyed each offering, especially the IPA which was West coast citric at a nice high but not over the top level. Settled on the Ten Penny ale for the growler ($12 fill) to split with the Mrs. Going to make this a regular stop when rolling through, it's about a mile off 290 down by the picturesque courthouse downtown.

I was in Johnson City to see the LBJ sites and needed late lunch/early dinner for my family. This place was recommended by the National Park Service staff, and I'm very glad they did so. It was Father's Day Sunday in a small town, so we had to wait about 40 minutes. We longed on the Old West boardwalk and looked at the courthouse in the square while we waited. As soon as we were seated, however, everything was outstanding. The staff was attentive and friendly. The food was excellent, even for my picky kids. The price was reasonable, although I kicked myself later for not asking for a military discount or AHA discount, both of which they had according to signs.

The beers were well-made and enjoyable. Unfortunately, they were out of a couple, so I was only able to get a sample of 3, the Jackalope Brown, Ten Penny Nail Ale and 1897 Jailbreak IPA. I liked the IPA best, so ordered another pint of that one. My wife was torn between the Brown and the Ten Penny, but ordered a Brown. All in all, this was a great place to eat/drink. It was unexpectedly good for such a small town. Keep up the good work, y'all!

This is our default "go to" place within a 30 mile radius of home. One can sit at the comfortable bar or get table service. The bartenders remember you and are very attentive. My husband says the fish and chips are the best he's had this side of the pond. We both love the portabella "fries" appetizer. Red Pepper Hummus is good. The pomegranate salad is fabulous! Add grilled chicken and you have dinner. Brick oven pizza is always satisfying and the specialty burgers are as good as you can get. We haven't made it to the full dinners - you have to have room for the great beer!

Their pale ales and IPAs are our choice of the regular beers, with seasonal offerings of their own or from others. At Christmas they had a spectacular barleywine. Can't say enough good things about Pecan Street.

I visited Pecan Street one Friday afternoon after doing some meandering in the Hill Country. This made for a nice beer road trip as it wasn’t too far from Blanco’s Real Ale. I came in and was immediately welcomed by the friendly bartender. He really embodied what I found to be just amazing hospitality--this place just oozes small town charm!

The place itself is spacious, with a beergarden, concert venue and pool table which makes this place poised to be the place in town. Live music on Saturdays too.

They have what is your standard brewpub lineup of beers (the blonde, amber, and stout) which ranges from ok to mostly solid with one standout (their red ale). I can’t comment on the food since I didn’t try anything on my visit.

I enjoyed my visit. While it is not a “destination” brewery I wouldn’t mind stopping in for a pint as part of a beer road trip.

Delicious beer and fine conversation. Growler to go was a real treat at the next brewpub less town.

Road Devil Red, imperial red ale, was fabulous.

Learned from local that they had to wait for years for the place to be finished. It is a reworked old hardware store on the town square. Very roomy and welcoming interior. Owners apparently did the whole thing on a cash basis and my local source became very thirsty waiting!

Have already recommended it heartily to all my beer brewing and drinking friends as an excellent day trip from Austin.

It is well situated on the way to Kerrville, Fredericksbirg, San Antonio and other fine Texas locations.
