Such malt complexity, sweetness and strength... With such extensive barrel aging... With such gripping alcohol power... This imperial, hoppy, black beast holds onto a surprising hop-forward balance that's unreasonable to expect. But these Country Boys do it anyway!

Dark bark-brown, appearing black through the center, the frothily headed ale is easily mistaken for stout. But with the nose hovering near, a hoppy tale is told instead. Red grapefruit, tangerine, mango and pine waft in the most IPA way imaginable. But with the toasty taste of coffee, char and wood for support, the taste counters with a semi-sweet malty underpinning.

Lavish in its creamy taste and texture, the ale prefers a drier and roasted palate moving forth. With the taste of whipping cream and burnt caramel receding, its the citrusy, tropical and piney hop taste and the roastiness of smoldering embers that join forces and promote a black and bitter finish.

Approaching India pale dryness and porter burnish taste, its finish is semi-dry and reliant as much on tannic oak as it does resinous hop bitterness and coffee-like bitterness to reinforce bite and a remarkable drinkable dryness to keep the ale from confusing with stout, barleywine or strong ale balances. Its gripping bitterness on the gullet returns with waves of citrus and perfumy pine in aftertaste.

Nice carbonation.
Resinous hops on the nose, blended with some nice roasty and caramel characteristics. With a hint of bourbon.
Tastes like a great Black IPA. Great blend of Roasty and HOps. I just want more barrel characteristics.
Overall a very nice beer. I would NEVER guess its 13%. Very drinkable

Very very sweet due to the Elmer T barrels it was aged in. Great beer

Simply put, a seriously top-flight beer. Crisp, black IPA with dank, resiny hop flavor, then taken to the next level by resting in a fine Kentucky Bourbon barrel. There's so many pretenders out there who think barrel aging is all it takes to make a good beer. Take notes here. This one deserves your attention.
