Bottle: Poured a blonde color ale with a medium size foamy head. Aroma of spicy habaneros and light cereal notes is not that bad. Taste started mildly with a nice cereal base and then the habaneros kicks in later. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not a big fan of spicy beer but this one ended being drinkable.

While this blonde ale innocently courses the palate to start, the deceptive beer finishes with a mischevous capsaicin burn that builds, and builds, and builds indefinately.

Starting with a calm and refreshing pour, the pint looks much like any other blonde ale you've had before. Brightly colored straw hues display light streams of carbonation through a moderate haze. Broken stark-white foam settles on the beer with medium retention and light lace.

Similarly, the aromas start the with grainy-sweet scent of thin honey, malt, and floral notes. But there's something oddly compelling in the backgrop- a ripe fruit scent of chipotle, wood, and peppercorn. Mild hop notes seem to be the catalyst that bridges the common beer scent into the additions of peppery fruit.

The first draw of beer into the mouth seems mild and refreshing. But as the beer crosses the middle palate it turns from it's part malt, part grain balance and into an herbally hopped, vegital taste of peppers. The refreshing taste of blonde piggy-backs onto the habanero flavor as it grows with strong capsaicin heat that suplants hop bitterness for its balance in finish.

The Dr. Jeckle/Mr. Hyde beer continues its schizophrenic nature in mouthfeel. What starts refreshing, light, and highly thirst quenching quickly turns to alcohol and habanero burn to finish. The vicious cycle of the beer scorches the tongue and causes a reaction to drink more... more of the refreshing beer that the beer pretends to be to start. Milk stout anyone?

Perhaps playful, perhaps devilish; the beer has some moxie treading onto my palate with its wolf-like attitude while dressed in sheep's clothing.

On tap at Country Boy Brewpub in KY.
Hazy, light amber with a small head of limited durability that leaves little lacing.
Light sweet aroma with a touch of funk; does not prepare one for the taste where the habanero addition is obvious. Obvious but not overwhelming or out of balance, and not just heat but some pepper taste too. . The taste of grains still comes through. Light body and light carbonation.

Poured into a snifter.

3.25 A: Moderately hazed dark yellow color. One finger of frothy white head that falls quickly and leaves just a wisp of lacing.

3.75 S: Base beer smells great. Grainy malts, fresh mountain stream water, grassy hops, and hay. The habanero is subtle in the nose, but it does give a pleasant burn with a deep inhale. Just a touch of chile vegetal component.

4.0 T: Oh yes, the habanero is much more prominent in the taste. It starts out warm and builds some good heat that peaks in the aftertaste. The peppers also add a touch of pepper flavor. The base stays similar - grainy malts. Fresh water, light earthiness, grassy hops, hay.

4.0 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Refreshing and super smooth with a warming finish.

4.0 D: Really nice pepper beer. Perfect heat level that adds depth while still allowing the base beer to shrine through.

25.4 fl.oz. bottle
Served in a perfect pint glass

This beer pours a hazy yellow color. It is topped with an inch of short-lived head that leaves no lacing.

The smell is sweet like pepper jelly. I also get some biscuit and toast.

The taste is very similar to the smell. It starts out sweet. Then through the middle I get the biscuit and bread flavors. The finish has a tiny amount of pepper flavor with very mild heat.

Moderate mouthfeel with a warming sensation on the back of my tongue and into my esophagus.

It is sweet and kind of boring with barely enough heat to make it interesting. I am usually disappointed in the heat from habanero beers. This is no exception. I highly doubt that I try this one again.
