From notes. 750mL (January 2015) into a tulip. Pours a deep chocolate brown w/ a thick rich mocha head.

Aroma is rich and chocolatey, bitter and roasty.

Taste follows nose. Bitter roasty malt, cocoa, a hint of nutmeg and cinnamon.

Mouthfeel seems a touch thin, but still nicely drinkable.

Overall a pretty good imperial stout but nothing extraordinary here.

Poured into a Reuben's Brew small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque in the glass, with a half finger cocoa brown head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, chocolate, Belgian style yeast and light berry fruit. Flavor is dark toasted malt with char, boiled coffee, dark chocolate, sweet crackers, hints of a light, fruity yeast. Finishes with good charred malt, chocolate and light hop bitterness. Medium bodie with a hint of creaminess. An interesting stout that has good char and malt flavors, but also a off-beat light, sweet, note that seems like a Belgian yeast or light fruit element, but could be the sweet graham cracker flavor. There is a light crackery flavor present. The profile feels like a char oriented American stout, but finishes with lighter, semi-sweet Belgian stout notes. An interesting and tasty stout with some unique flavor notes and complexity. I liked this quite a bit. A worthy celebratory stout that is brave enough to push the envelope a little bit. Kudos to Chuck's and Urban Family.
