Appearance - love the shape of the bottle for sure. pours an opaques orangish yellow with a inch thick head

Smell - straw up front and it did not seem too bitter at first. as this warmed up I got much more hops in the smell

Taste - a ton of bittering hops for sure. bitter at first, broken up by the malts, and then a bitter finish.

Mouthfell - weirdly it was kind of dry to the finish

Overall - Love most beers by Elevation, but this one wasn't my favorite. Would be willing to drink again though.

16 oz bottle. Pours golden amber with a small creamy off white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is biscuity malts, sugary melons and some piney resiny hops.

The flavor is lots of biscuity malts with a little fruit and a pretty big grassy bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and slightly watery with low carbonation.

Overall, I didn't really care for it. Thin, with too much biscuit.

Pint sized bottle served chilled into an imperial pint glass.

First Cast is a hazy pale amber color with an inch of white head. It settles slowly and leaves some lace.

Aroma is faintly hoppy but but not enough so for an IPA. Mostly malts with a hint of sweet citrus.

Flavor is again more malt forward than most IPAs with hops playing a secondary role.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and nicely carbonated. Well balanced, more along the lines of an APA.

Overall a good ale but not an India pale ale.

12 oz glass bottled on 5-11-2015 into a tulip.

Look: Opaque amber in color. Thin white head dissipates quickly. No carbonation.

Smell: Subtly claylike, hints of earthiness. Lightly piney. Mango forward. Overall kind of bland.

Taste: Bright. Not very bitter. Some residual sugar. Kind of a bready malt. Tangerine zest. Not a bunch of pine or fruit. meh

Feel: Not as heavy as Cream... more like 2% milk. Carbonation is fun. Pretty good body. Overall the best aspect of this beer. (and if I'm honest, texture does mean a lot more to me than the BA percentages allocate towards total score)

Overall: Meh. If a sixer was $3 cheaper this might be a go to everyday beer but even still it might have a hard time usurping Sierra Nevada Torpedo. I like Elevation stuff. They recently did a saison aged in chardonnay barrels that I'd have a hard time in a blindfold test distinguishing it from an oakey buttery California chardonnay. But this one falls a little flat. I really wish this could distinguish itself like a lot of Elevation's other stuff.

Very malty IPA. Quite well balanced, to me. Not an in-your-face blast of hoppiness, but exceptionally tasty and easy to drink. Maybe more of an American Pale Ale, than an IPA.

I could drink this all day long.

OK I'm rating this as an India Pale Ale. Brewery web site calls this a "... a hop-forward west coast style American IPA."
If I tasted this blind folded I would have called it a Scottish Ale. Maybe I'm off, maybe not.
Not a bad brew! If you go into this thinking hop heaven forgetaboutit. If you don't mind a little malt on the front end you'll enjoy this beer from Elevation.

First Cast – IPA (6.5%) - Elevation Brewing Co. (Colorado)

App: Squash gold with a slightly off white head, settling to thin bubbles on top and around the rim. Some lacing. Very clear. Tiny bubbles from the bottom.

Smell: Aroma is typical. Mild citrus character and some tropical fruit aromas. Hints of pineapple. Malt aromas very low, lending only the slightest grainy sweetness. A stab of pepper.

Taste: Hops dominate this beer from start to finish. Foretaste is delicately sweet with a little lemon. Transitions from fruity sweetness to more pronounced, resinous, bitterness. Like its kin Little Mo', a lurking alcohol flavor detracts from some good flavors. Not overpoweringly bitter; not particularly forward in flavor. Comfortably piney. Overall balanced.

Mouth: Solidly medium bodied with pleasant smoothness and light-to-moderate carbonation, allowing hops flavors to linger on the palate.

Home tasting, 16.9oz bottle into Snifter. 10/8/14.
