Style: Kölsch

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Head Brewer Christian Koch fell in love with this style after visiting the beer halls of Cologne and brewed our 8 Second Kölsch to be a true representation of this easy drinking, crisp Ale. We first brewed this beer as a specialty beer for our local county rodeo, and it quickly became a local hit. This is a beer that will find a place in craft beer destinations and cowboy bars alike, and is perfect for those looking for an easy drinking everyday craft beer.

12oz can from the brewery.

Pours bright, pale yellow with a thin white lace. Crackery malts with a hint of bubblegum in the nose. Smooth, a bit creamy, slightly crisp and light-bodied. Malts are bready with a honey-like sweetness, a hit of rindy citrus, some grassy bitterness and mild fruitiness that emerges as the beer warms. Dry, grainy finish with an soft, tea-like floral linger and mild astringency.

8 Second Kölsch is a tasty, easy drinking nod to the Kölsch style.

Appearance: Pours clear and golden colored with a modest head that fades; minimal lacing

Smell: Bready, but slightly sweet, with a grassy and lemony aspect

Taste: The grassy tone appears straight away, with the hint of lemon building; through the middle, the sweeter malt aspect peaks through, leaving a sweet tone in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Light body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A refreshing beer; a bit sweeter than I prefer, though

Pours a hazy yellow with a small white head. Smells of bready malts. Tastes of grain, yeast, and some sour fruits. Light mouthfeel. Overall a very good beer. Kind of light a fruity lager.

From a bottle with a freshness date. About 4 months since bottling... therefore I will not judge this on freshness.

Pale gold color body under a quickly fading white head.

The aroma is welcoming and right on point. Crackery toasted malts blend wonderfully with a flower-petal and fresh-cut green apple hop aroma.

The flavor hits the right marks for this "lagery" ale. Fresh, clean, lightly yeast-driven malt which stay on the light side of the spectrum, and is balanced by low bitterness and a nice helping of mild hops.

Conclusion: I have always found Elevation to rise above the typical small town Colorado brewery standard, and this is no exception. Well done!

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a light straw yellow with hints of gold and a fine one finger white head with good retention and lots of lacing. Aroma of grainy biscuit malt and grassy hops, lightly vegetal. Flavor is similar, mild grainy biscuit malt and light dry grassy hops and a hint of lemon. Finish is a little thin, leaning towards a mildly tart lemony grain flavor with light grassy hops. Nice lightly creamy body, good mouth feel especially for this style. The finish is a little thin, but the overall flavor and aroma are spot on for the style. A pleasant kolsch with a light malt body and well balanced hops.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: pale straw hue with a touch of haze and a thin layer of white foam. Not bad.

Smell: lightly grainy and yeasty with some sweetness overlaid. The underlying graininess is just a little sour but overall it's a good example of the style.

Taste: very much like the aroma, with that same dash of sour to the graininess and with a bit more sweetness. Still, it's a refreshing beer.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess.

Overall: a pretty straightforward American Kölsch; light and refreshing.

This was a very good Kolsch, which is a style not many breweries have attempted to make. Very smooth and light, yet flavorful, just as it should be. This is my third different Elevation beer so far and I am quickly becoming a fan. Very glad they are bottling and distributing now!
