For the last couple of years on our Easter Belgium Trip, we have stopped in Verviers for a few hours. This year it was the Sunday, Verviers was quite literally packed, there was an Easter Fair, Bands and all sorts of festivities happening in the centre of this Market Town - it was Easter Sunday after all and so it appeared all of Belgium was here. Bad Timing!. But the Boule Rouge always offers a retreat, even if it was full. The best Café in the Town, by a very long way. Just off the corner of the town centre rectangle, and set amongst shops & other Cafes. A long thin single room Bar that has an unrivalled Beer List for the Town, and maybe surrounding areas. A high-quality selection of 150+ beers that often changes slightly. Regardless, it always contains a traditional Lambic and Gueuze, beers from Brasserie à Vapeur, other rarities from the south – and Achouffe, which most of our Party usually finish with. Food is strange, they do not serve “full” meals, as such, but neither are they just nibbles – sort of a half-way-house. Wholesome plated Snacks. If you like your eggs well cooked, be sure to ask, otherwise they can be very runny! Nevertheless, a great bar where the Staff are very well-trained in the delights of Belgium Beer, and will always help you with your choice, or advise you of any last minute changes to the beer menu. And Do Ask! – for they often have some beer gems available that are not advertised.

The Red Ball is a superb, compact, but modern, almost trendy Café, that I always enjoy visiting - just do not do it on Easter Sunday!!!
