my first beer from these guys is a nice bright ipa with clean and summery hop profile. not sure if there is actually citrus in the beer or not, i would think yes given the name, but its not overdone and sugary and obvious like it is in so many of these, its tidy and fermented darn near all the way dry, so the citrus essence sort of melds in the with hop profile, and thats a good thing. this yields a really well refined and very drinkable beer, at least in terms of flavor. this is another one of those overly hazy looking brews, fortunately it doesnt feel heavy, it just looks dense, and the flavors are so summery and lively, it stays easy going. there are notes of meyer lemon, pink grapefruit, and tangerine in this, likely some citra and mosaic hops too, i get white gummy bears and a bit of green apple too, some bitterness at the end is nice, and i like what i think must be the wheat in the mash, this has a sort of light floating feeling to it without being as weighty as it looks like it should be, nice texture. overall a really nice ipa, good use of fruit if that is in fact the case, marries so well with the hops. i liked all the beers i had from these guys in a recent session, and see why they are getting some attention. this is better than most.

First had Slick City, my first beer from Shades of Pale, at Cinnabar, Snowbasin, Utah, poured from 12-oz. bottle, label stamped “BEST BY FEB19 LOT 100,” into tumbler.

Dank grapefruit, this is an excellent modern American IPA.

[Original rating 2017-05-26] Bottle from the brewery, bottled 2017-05-25. Very tasty. A great citrusy IPA, glad I tried it. I only bought one, need more.

Pours a hazy, apple cider in color with a thick layer of head that dissipates. Smells of a plethora of fruits; apricot, grape, pineapple, perhaps a hint of lemony citrus and grapefruit. Taste follows the note quite well; fruity with bitterness. Not much of a malt profile. Lingering flavor is lemon and grapefruit rind on the tongue. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. A little bit of chewiness but the carbonation was a bit flat -- perhaps I poured too aggressively. Overall a refreshing and enjoyable brew that is most definitely on the fruity/citrusy side of the spectrum.

It looks absolutely beautiful when it pours, with a nice, creamy head. Aroma definitely lives up to the name, but doesn't seem overpowering. The citrus flavor is very dominant up front, but fades a bit at the end for a mildly bitter finish.

Really solid beer, not my favorite local IPA but certainly a respectable entry in Utah's burgeoning IPA scene.

The name of this beer is actually Slick City IPA. I'm not sure how to request a change on that.

L-Cloudy straw colored with good head and great lacing.
S-Melon, grapefruit,pineapple, lemons, mango
T-fantastic layers of sharp citrus hops, Non discript malts beneath the hop presence... maybe some wheat?
F-velvelty and sticky
O-one of the better ipa's ive had in a while.

Great beer! Is this trying to be a New England style IPA? Seems like it is. It's juicy, citrusy, and lightly malty; kind of sweet, but not too much. There's a pineapple, mango, orange peel, and grapefruit flavor profile. It's bitter in the backend from the hops, a bit earthy, yet balanced. Very murky, hazy, and unfiltered. It looks like murky orange juice. It has a creamy head that with sticky lace along the sides of the glass; I like the creamy mouthfeel. I'm happy to be one of the first to try this new beer from Shades of Pale!
