Style: American Imperial IPA

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 9.10%

Availability: Rotating

Notes / Commercial Description:
Surprisingly balanced and drinkable given its stats. While most American Double IPAs use West Coast citrus hops, we went with old world noble hops to give it a floral, grassy bouquet and then punish you with Warrior hops.

DO NOT ASK FOR WHOM THE COWBELL TOLLS. THE COWBELL TOLLS FOR THEE.

Good looking pour. Pale honey color. Golden wheat or straw. Inch of white head. Smell is floral and citrusy. Typical IPA scent. Taste is also typical IPA but not kick you in the mouth hoppy. Smooth bite to it. Overall exactly how you would think it would be. Would drink again if I was in the mood for a basic IPA.

I've read that this Double IPA from Buffalo Bayou allegedly have IBU 118. I didn't get that when I drank it but it is possible. It is an interesting IPA. It is not juicy or dank, but more of a traditional well balanced IPA with lots of pine resin flavor.

Look: semi-clear golden color with a very thick white head

Aroma: pine resin

Flavor: Toasted malts, grassy, floral-pine-resin hops, a hint of citrus.

Feel: light to medium

[Original rating 2016-05-16] Draft at Craft Pride Austin TX. Pours clear orange with a thin white head, nice lacing. Aroma of caramel, flowers, citrus. Taste is similar, perfectly balanced with citrusy hops, citrus finish. Not a hop monster but if you like balance in your big IPAs this is for you. I don’t rate anything 5.0 because I haven’t had the perfect beer yet but this is one of the best DIPAs I’ve ever had.

This is a really good DIPA. I try to get it at least once a week (I'm in Houston so it's prevelant). I've had all the CA and OR great DIPAs and Eastern NY CT and this one always tastes good in comparison. It's not the best but it's certainly up there. Very hoppy yet drinkable. If you like a bitter IPA it's a nice one. If you are lucky enough to get the west coast brews check out Alpha Centauri it's the best DIPA but not available out this way...

Received on tap. Pours golden honey color with almost no head or lacing. Smell is minimal, sweet, and floral. Tasted boozy with grapefruit. Finished on the bitter side. It is okay for a double, but definitely hadmuch better. Probably won’t buy again.

This is a good 2x IPA: it’s really smooth and doesn’t knock your socks off with overpowering hops. It’s a beer that you need to watch out for. A few pints and your tipsy!

Pours clear and golden honey in color. The nose is rather weak on the hops scents I expect in an IPA especially an Imperial IPA. The taste makes up for the lack of nose with great hop flavors and bitterness I enjoy. The followthrough has a bitter bite...but I like that! Does not drink like 9%.

This brew was nice and bitter, with crisp citrus and resin character. It had a full body and a fairly smooth finish. Not top tier, but still a nice double IPA.

Poured from tap into shaker, nice 1 finger head, good lacing. Slight chill haze, otherwise clear golden in the glass. Smells of floral hops. Taste initial malt sweetness, then floral hops with some pine in there. Finishes with a mild bitterness. Hides ABV well. Great old school dipa.

16 ounce can into tulip glass, no can dating. Pours slightly hazy deep golden/amber color with a 2 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with fantastic retention, that reduces to a large cap that lasts. Thick soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, toasted biscuit, bread dough, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/earthy/pine hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, toasted biscuit, bread dough, light caramel, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of peach, pineapple, apricot, mango, honeydew melon, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, pine, toasted biscuit, bread dough, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy/pine hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt flavors; with a nice malt/bitterness balance. Touch of lingering hop astringency through the glass, but not overwhelming. Moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and medium-plus body; with a very smooth, bready/grainy, and sticky/resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 9%. Overall this is an excellent DIPA! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy/pine hops, fruity yeast, and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink for the ABV, despite the aggressively bitter/drying finish. Quite unique as it only has noble hops, but the yeast adds nice fruity complexity. Big bright earthy/citrusy/spicy hops with balanced malts; but never overly sweet/heavy feeling. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
