I am not so much a sour ale kind of guy & this ale has sour yeast in it, but man does this beer makes sense. The sour note goes so well with the caramel malt & the hint of smoke.

Appearance-Light tan quarter-inch Head of foam. Sexy hue of amber/dark red, ranges from orangey pekoe tea to rich mohogany to dark ruby red.

Smell-man, an interesting tart apple aroma! Sweet smoke, mild peat, sweet malt.

Taste-tart, sweet red apple, sweet toasted malts, slightly dry smoke aftertaste.

Mouthfeel-slightly sticky, medium body.

Overall-a truly sexy, light scotch/ red ale with a fun tart twist!

No head at all; dank sugar nose with little appeal; almost sour off putting flavors. A bad bottle? or a bad concept?

I'm never a fan of Scotch Ales, but received this as a gift. Actually not bad, maybe the best Scotch Ale I've had. Not sure about the "taste of Houston" thing on the label - being from Dallas, that is not a city I really want to taste ;)

Not bad, but not one I'll go seeking out.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this beer

Consumed 11/14/14

A: Deep brown, dark at its core, with some burnt caramel around the edges - pours with a medium-large, fluffy tan head - keeps a solid cap, leaves some sheets of lacing - pretty

S: Bready with a lot of caramel - not a malt bomb, but there is a definite emphasis on the malts - chewy bread, caramelized malts, caramel candy, molasses - very fruity, with some dark fruits - raisins, plums - nice level of sweetness - utterly lacking smoke, which is a little confusing considering the name of this beer

T: Sweet bread - very grainy - bread, lightly toasted biscuits, caramelized malts, malt extract, caramel candy, molasses - a range of sweetness, with some dark fruit sweetness, and a sweetness reminiscent of maple syrup - not exactly what I would expect in a Scotch ale, but whatever

M: Medium body, very smooth, nicely carbonated, finishes with some sweetness and booze

O: Sweet buffalo juice

This is odd. It's interesting, but it almost feels like it needs more time to develop. And it also needs smoke. Regardless, I like it.

22 oz bomber pours a mostly clear copper color with a modest cap of light beige head. Not much for retention and lace.

I am perplexed by this odd tropical fruitiness...pineapple and mango - where the f*** did these aromas come from? Malts are vanilla, with a light caramel apple nose. Interesting and not at all what I was expecting...where is the smoke? Where is the wee heavy??

Taste gets a little back on track with a nice fruity scotch ale base with a hint of smokiness. I still cant figure out why there is such a disconnect between the flavor and the nose, but man is it a big disparity. The smoke is incredibly light unfortunately, and the malt is more 60 shilling than wee heavy. For 10+ bucks a bomber I was hoping for a little more umph. This is utterly unimpressive and pretty much an embarrassment at that price point. Ive had better Brown Ales....really?? Shame on you Buffalo Bayou.

This one offers the taste of Houston on the label, which being from houston, kind of scared me ;-)

This one pours a blackish tan with a nice decent head that settles a bit fast leaving a moderate lacing down the glass.

The nose is definitely smoky malt and hops , spice and malt blend that is not powerful, but is good.

The taste is pleasantly bitter which dominates the nicely toasted malts that leave a very complex and dry flavor to satiate the palate.

The moutfeel is rich and not heavy. Just right for this one.

Overall a very drinkable beer that I will definitely be drinking again.
