Notes / Commercial Description:
What?
Introducing the Belgian Oatmeal IPA! Flaked oats play a major role in this Belgian-American porridge. Pungent spicy noble hops, citrusy American hops, and a Belgian yeast all wrapped up in a silky blanket of oats--yes please! We will not make any claims as to the health benefits of using oatmeal in beer, but if there are any, then…it’s the right beer to drink, and the tasty way to do it!

Why?
This beer gets its clove aromas and spicy flavors from the Belgian yeast. The combination of tettnang and cascade hops create a lemon-orange pith tartness which finds balance with the caramel malt sweetness. The large amount of flaked oats used in this beer helps tame all of these robust flavors creating a very unique flavor profile. Its frothy head will make a beer mustache that Mr. Brimley himself would be proud to wear!

Pours caramel golden with an off white head that immediately disappears. Aroma is decent but not great; spicy and gummy from the yeast, citrus and its rind from the hops, bready from the malt, and some chewy sweetness from the oat sugars. Flavor is similar with some spice and gum, nice juicy clementine, piney bitterness, bready. Really like the oats contribution to this, as it finishes dry, a little woody, but with some nice sugary sweetness. A fuller, creamy mouthfeel. Overall, solid beer and the more of it I drank, the more it grew on me.

Belgian IPA brewed with oats that smelled like lemons, oranges, and cloves. Had a silky feel and a hoppy finish. All around good beer. One could drink it all day long- not just a one time beer. Tasted it from the taproom in Denver and it was the best one I tried at Wit's End.
