Went here without knowing anything about it beforehand. Cool space, a place that feels like you're outside still even when you're inside. Tall tables and seats, an upstairs area in addition to the floor. It seemed pretty neat, but beware: there were lots and lots of yuppies here when I was there. I couldn't tell you how many people in expensive clothes I overheard bragging about their Stanford or Berkeley credentials and their jobs for stupid tech companies. (It's like I was back home around DC, except back home people would be bragging about Georgetown and their work on Capitol Hill.) The service was ok, you order everything at the bar, food included. Had a nice selection of beers they brew, and good menu variety as well. Food was excellent. I recommend the banh mi.

Worth searching out just off the popular streets (and the free tourist map) in the Mission District. Solid selection, seven of their own and another seven guests, including Tricerahops. The Bastogne blond Belgian golden and their saison were true to style. Limited but tasty food, the lamb pita had real chunks of lamb instead of the usual gyro-like mix, and local sausage was great as well. Large industrial space on a side street with a patio in front, bar to the right on entering, tables left and a mezzanine for parties. Expect it to get loud as it fills up, and the music changes from seventies classics to a techno vibe

Nice place, cool neighborhood, unfortunately the beer was borderline undrinkable.

House brews are good, though I would say polite or modest. I prefer their Extra IPA, which they seem to rarely have available. They do keep Ninkasi Tricerahops (DIPA) on tap so that works. There food is nice and service is fast. I like their Vietnamese sandwich, the fried chicken wings and their sage fries. This place is very nice and open inside so you don't usually have to battle or wait for a place to sit.

Southern Pacific Brewing left me with mixed feelings as to what I thought. I went there for a casual lunch while in the area hoping to sample their beer. Upon arrival (due to poor signage, this alone was pure luck), my fellow drinking partners and I were astounded by the building and interior. It was truly impressive with multiple floors and areas to sit. The bar was well themed and the whole building seemed like it was well done. The problem that destroyed any sort of atmosphere was the blaring hip hop music. The only way to talk with anyone was to sit outside and even then that was a challenge.
The beers seemed average, nothing special, and the service seemed unfriendly redeeming themselves with speed. The whole experience was confusing and a little off-putting.

Southern Pacific seems like a work-in-progress, until you realize they’ve been around long enough to be their own beast by now. But they still seem searching for an identity, or at least a clientele that fits with their identity. What do I mean by this? Take their music selection, for example. On my visit I heard old Eminem, and loud—so, ok, throwback hip-hop from when the twentysomethings around me were in high school… which might have matched with the party bus partygoers who were streaming (stumbling?) in and out… but then they have a row of fantastic craft beers and some house brewed selections which show promise enough… and bartenders who know how to craft a serious drink, not just mix up a bunch of jack and cokes, you know? The house beers were cheap--$4 a pint is a rarity these days, not that I’m complaining—and the service was fast and friendly, which goes a long way. The space itself is spacious and maybe because I grabbed a seat at the bar I caught too much of the action, but that’s where I enjoy sitting when I’m rolling solo. I really had no complaints about this place. Nothing amazing, nothing to blow your mind, just seemed solid and dependable all around. If they were closer to where I lived or my frequent haunts I’d definitely make more than the occasional trek out here.

We went for lunch on a Thursday, so the place (newly opened within the past few months) was pretty empty. The neighborhood is Mission East and industrial/commercial (except for the nearby O'Connell John School of Tech). Parking is tight in the area. Southern Pacific Brewing is in a huge old warehouse or industrial building. Signage is minimal, but you'll know when you've arrived. There's outside seating, and once you step inside, your are transported into a high-ceiling, bright and airy place that is very pleasant.
The bar has 12 stools and more taps. About 6 were the house-brewed offerings, and there were about 8 guest taps that included Scrimshaw Pils, Anchor Liberty, Sierra Nevada Hoptimum, quite a good selection. All the house brews and menu offerings were railroad themed, and the footrest at the bar was an actual piece of rail - a very nice touch!
They were out of IPAs (both the West Coast IPA and the other - more was promised the next day), so I had to settle for the PA, which was excellent with my lunch. I got a lentel-burger with sage fries (really garlic fries), and my food was quite good if pricey (but hey this is SF, and the brew at $3.50 made up for it). My wife's burger (at "medium") was just right. Service was good, wait staff was knowledgeable about the beers.
Overall, this place has great ambience. When I visited, the sun was streaming in the multi-story high front windows, which gave the place a wonderful feeling. There is an upper deck (above the kitchen)_for overflow seating. Sure enough, back in the back of this huge old building were the tanks and fermenters, not stuffed in behind the bar at this place. These were large with plenty of space and a LOT of capacity.
I think this place has a lot of potential and will go far as they develop a clientele. Recommended.

My friend took me here because he’d heard it just opened and hadn’t tried it yet.
Located in the warehouse district in the Mission, this was one of my favorite destinations during my vacation in the Bay Area. The owners have created an extremely interesting and practical space out of an old warehouse, diamond plate industrial yet comfortable, with huge windows, plenty of headroom and a nice patio out front, where we sat and talked to other patrons. The sound system had great acoustics, and sounded fantastic without being loud. The music they were playing was folkish-poppyish stuff. It fit the location and mood of the place.
The food was a fantastic value and very unique. My roasted honey ham sandwich was appetizing and filling. I only tried their IPA, but it was one of the best session beers I’ve had in recent memory. Definitely worth trying!

A cavernous metal building that used to be a machine shop. Giant windows across the front, brewery way in the back. They built a mezzanine-level dining deck inside, and it is still way below the ceiling. Concrete floors. Noisy, but at least they don't play the music too loud. Bar along one wall where you also order food. Chain link fence separates the picnic table area from the bar and dining area. Hard and uncomfortable furniture.
Beers for the opening week were a Wit, California Blonde, Pale Ale, West Coast IPA, Extra IPA, and Porter. No fancy names. Pints were $4 and $5, but the Pale Ale was $3. Guest beers included Anchor Porter and Steam, Ninkasi Otis, Lagunitas Pils, Guiness, SN Ruthless Rye, and one from Devils Canyon.
Food was quite good and very reasonable, especially for SF. Tried the steak sandwich and a big bowl of grilled brussels sprouts. The fancy pizzas looked good with a big crust. Also have an interesting variety of salads, burgers, and sandwiches, plus wings, calamari, lasagne, and steak frites.
The place just opened January 27, 2012. It was so mobbed we gave up and came back on a Monday. The alley location in the Mission District is kind of fun. The 12 bus runs around the corner on Folsom. A few blocks walk to trolley coach routes on Mission or the 27 line on Bryant. Short hike to the 16th Street BART station.
