A - Pours a clear, light orange with a small white head.

S - Very spicy and peppery.

T - Spicy pepper and strong lemons.

D - Good carbonation and a very light body.

O - Saison, but a very different, odd after-taste. I did not really enjoy this one.

I'm new to this style so I will be reviewing this beer based on the following description of the Saison style as it's described here on beer advocate...

Saisons are sturdy farmhouse ale that was traditionally brewed in the winter, to be consumed throughout the summer months. Not so long ago it was close to being an endangered style, but over recent years there's been a massive revival; especially in the US.

This is a very complex style; many are very fruity in the aroma and flavor. Look for earthy yeast tones, mild to moderate tartness. Lots of spice and with a medium bitterness. They tend to be semi-dry with many only having touch of sweetness.

Here's my review;

22 oz bottle no bottling info

Pours a mostly clear golden body with a white head. Very little retention or lacing.

I'm getting lots of sweet cherries up front with a healthy amount of yeast detected as well. It's a grainy marzen type of yeast scent. Also getting a little bit of clove spice... This all seems true to the description of the style.

Taste follows the scent with a noticeable plumb-like tartness . A very tiny amount of detectable bitterness. Again, all very true to the description of the style. (Taste benefited greatly from warming I.M.O.)

Not a lot of carbonation. Light, almost watery. (not really sure what the style calls for...)

Overall; I enjoyed this beer and the Saison style and will have both again soon...

Perhaps I will revisit this review when I'm more familiar with the style !
