I hit up Saus for the second time last night. I liked it so much the first time, its kind of surprising I've only been here twice. I usually just dont think of it and I tend to cut through the alley behind the place so often, I just simply dont see the sign or even think of it.

The first thing that strikes me about the place is how clean it looks which is always an important factor for quality in general. Mostly finished hardwood walls and floors with some random Begian type art hanging on the walls. The staff is very friendly and I have met one of the owners both times I have been in and she seems to really care about quality and offering a pleasant experience. The food is excellent. The poutine is as good as any that I've had in Montreal over the years and the Belgian waffles are absolutley fantastic. They also have this nice apple slaw that I really enjoy.

The beer selection is not huge but very well thought out. They have like 4 or 5 draft lines but good selection on these. When I was here before Halloween, I had the Ayinger Octoberfest which was excellent and last night I had Southern Tier Creme Brulee which was also quite good. They have a larger selection in bottles but it seems that they pick their draft lines well enough that I dont need to bother with the bottled beers. The prices on their food are very reasonable and their beer prices are a little on the high side but I dont really mind--they're not overly expensive --just seems like they make a better profit margin on their drinks than their food and that is no problem. As long as its quality, I am fine with it and their quality is excellent.

There really arent many good food places in the Faneul hall area so this place is a diamond in the rough. I hope it can maintain its consistent quality for a long time to come.

This is a hidden gem in the tourist trap of Faneuil Hall (which is largely dominated by chain restaurants, faux Irish pubs, and macro beers).

Saus is a small, locally-owned fast-food place focusing on Belgian street food (frites, poutine, and waffles -- oh, and sandwiches and salads). The frites are great, and they offer about a dozen different dipping sauces. We didn't have the waffles, but they looked good and were well reviewed by the party next to us.

Beer selection is smallish, well chosen, and leans Belgian. In bottles/cans they had Piraat, Corsendonk, Narragansett lager, Sixpoint Sweet Action, Duvel, Gulden Draak, and perhaps others I'm not remembering. They have 4 or 5 taps. When I visited, they offered Slumbrew Porter Square Porter, Avery White Rascal, Unibroue Ephemere, and Tripel Karmeliet. The person pouring the porter was a bit rushed, so the pint ended up with an overly generous head, but it wasn't intentional -- just inexperience.

Don't come here expecting a dark Belgian bar -- it definitely has the feel of an upscale fast-food outlet -- but it's a nice stop for a beer and a snack when you're in the area. The frites are a great addition to the local scene, and it's fantastic that Saus is offering a solid lineup of beers alongside them.
