Poured from a 16 oz can into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Hazed medium golden pour with big foamy white head.

S: Sweet and fruity. Papaya and citrus.

T.F: Just like it smells... sweet malts and fruit up front. Melon, papaya, tangerine, mango, and citrus. Tropical fruit salad. Creamy mouthfeel and medium bodied. Some dankness... more fruit to finish.

O: Very much a Tired Hands DIPA. Loads of flavor... super easy drinking.

Tired Hands - Extra Extra Knuckle

Pint can - dated 07/24/2020 - poured into an ale tulip at 38°F.

Pours a hazy, but not milky apricot orange, topped with two fingers of dense off-white head with good retention - leaving significant lacing behind. Some effervescence is visible through the haze.

Nose: First thing that stands out is this is very much the classic Tired Hands single hop double IPA base beer. The sweet pale malt, the super expressive ale yeast, etc... On top of that, the Mosiac hops just explode, dripping with Mosaic aromas. Grassy and vegetal green notes, a hint of pungent dank allium, underripe tropical melon, and not blue, but red berries. Mosaic can take many forms varying by batch, but this is sort of a full spectrum Mosaic. Grassy, dank, juicy, and fruity.

Palate: The beer greets the palate malt-first, with a touch of sweetness, but nowhere near what some of their DIPAs do. Nicely balanced with pale grain, and a smear of bready sweetness. The hops quickly rush in, and in keeping with the theme, there's no shortage of Mosaic intensity. I'm greeted by ripe papaya, candied peach, and a touch of melon rind. Beneath that, some sweet blue and red berry notes come in and out of focus, at times almost taking on a cotton candy quality. There's still a dank hint if allium, but it's more balanced than the aroma. Moving towards the finish, some green grassiness, leafy hop cone, unripe melon rind, and lime leaf build a stark contrast to the initial sweet fruitiness, and the beer ultimately finishes chalky dry with softly bitter grassy, leafy Mosaic, and some unripe rind.

Mouthfeel/Body: The beer is medium-bodied, with some fullness to it. All things considered, at nearly 9% ABV, the beer is actually quite drinkable and fluid. The malt lends some softness, but in a juicy way, rather than a plush smoothie way. Barely any stickiness at all - just a touch on the lips. Effervescence is surprisingly fuzzy, lively, and super fine. Wet and juicy upfront, taking on drying characteristics in the finish.

Overall: I'm always apprehensive, but oft surprised by these Tired Hands offerings. I'm most impressed by the balance and hidden ABV of this one. I think this is a very nice higher ABV display of Mosaic, and it offers an interesting and colourful evolution of flavour. It is ever-so-slightly rindier (not a word) and grassier (also not a word) in the finish than I'd prefer it to be, but it does cut through and balance the malt nicely. Halfway through, this is at its flavour peak, but looking past that minor complaint, it's still a great Mosaic NEDIPA, and any diehard Mosaic fans will absolutely love this.

Canned on 7/24/20; consumed on 8/11/20

Pours a hazy, golden dark orange body topped with multiple fingers of thick, foamy, white head; excellent retention leaves a half-finger of creamy, craggy cap, moderate, soapy collar, and an intense array of chunky, webby lacing covering the walls of the glass.

Aroma bursts with dank and musty Mosaic hops upfront, highlighting zesty spent lime, hints of neutral herbs, peppery hop tones, and prickly grass; dank white peach evolves a fruity note over the middle as a twangy, creamy mango sweetness begins to course through the back end of the bouquet; a dense, sweet tropical close progresses beneath a consistent herbal hop overtone.

Taste opens with slightly sticky mango and apricot, soon embracing an herbal touch underlying spiced pineapple and soft papaya over the mid-palate; notes of lime spread across the profile and impart a continued citric twang subtly across the profile as melon rind and incense contribute their own unique touches to the finish.

Mouthfeel features a plush, medium-light body alongside a lightly spritzy, moderate carbonation; subtly, effortlessly creamy across the mid-palate and into the back end, with hints of resinous texture and even juicy qualities appearing throughout; moderate spikes of nicely attenuated bitterness on the back end round out a perfectly nuanced character along the palate, steady and effortless while retaining an impactful hop presence.

An expressive Mosaic hop guides through a contrastingly soft and layered display, considerate of both the intensity of the hop character and the ultra-plushness of the brew's structure as a whole; Tired Hands pressed on with another absolute banger of an IPA, soaked in a harmony of blunt expression and balance, from tropical tones to bitterness, and with no shortage of exploration in between.
