Milkshake IPA - CalamansiMilkshake IPA - Calamansi
Notes: Brewed with oats, lactose sugar, and wheat flour. Conditioned atop Madagascar vanilla beans and a copious amount of luscious calamansi purée. Hopped intensely with Mosaic and Citra. Dreamt up with the sweethearts at @omnipolloshatt.

Traded for this beer ages ago, as it had of something/2/16 on the bottom with "BROTHER" written beneath it. Yeah, I let this sit for too long but some of the other offerings that I've had from Tired Hands aged a bit better than this did. There was a decent amount of sediment at the bottom of the glass as this settled but even with that in mind, this was just a bit too sweet and odd for my liking in the end...

The pour to this was alright as the liquid was golden, muted, and topped off with plenty of foamy head. That settled in typical fashion as there was a bit of thin lacing left behind over the top half of my pint glass. Tons of lactose, vanilla, and calamansi in the nose as this felt tropical and exotic, to the point where I had to look up what the latter was. Can't say that I ever had anything with that in it before, let alone a beer, but it gave this a smooth, juicy, and exotic smell and taste that felt like lychee or jack fruit to me. The Citra made this slick but I didn't feel any of the Mosaic as this was a juice bomb more than anything else.

The amount of alcohol in this was spot-on as this didn't feel too strong but still warmed me up a bit by the time I finished it off. Plenty of body with the oats as this was balanced and the carbonation was low as well. A bit more would have been nice to scrub my palate and keep this fresh but in the end, this was a welcome change from the typical New England IPA. Even after all of this time, I still enjoy having Milkshake beers like this if I can get my hands on one!

Poured from a can into a Tired Hands teku glass.

A: An opaque and hazy orange hue. Slight white head that dissipates almost immediately.
S: A somewhat sweet nose, but I can't exactly place it. Lactose and fruit pretty much.
T: Tastes kind of like flat fruit punch. Very similar to the Rosé beer they did.
F: Thin mouthfeel, but still creamy.
O: This is probably my least favorite milkshake to date, but it's still an incredibly interesting and good beer.

Thanks to Tim for sharing some of his allotment with me - enjoyed chilled from the can in a tired hands oversized wine glass.
The color is like banana pudding -golden with thick almost chunky appearance with nice white head of cream. The smell is incredible -tangy tropical like orangeade or fresh squeezed tangerines! The feel is as good as it smells with tangy fruity tropical yet not overly acidic or bitter with medium high carbonation and light finish with mostly dry texture.

The flavor of this is fresh, juicy, tropical and so enjoyable -I know I have said it before but this has the most fruit flavor of any IPA I have tried to date. The taste is different than most citrus in that it has a sort of tangerine/lime combination that I love. The malt and hops really only provide a base and you don't taste the lactose as much as the other 'milkshakes' I really was not sure what to expect but would recommend this to those who are not offended by the concept of 'milkshake IPA' or fruit in hoppy beer in general this will change your preconceived notions it is very pure tropical and refreshing!

16 oz. can. Bright yellow and hazy. Smells of bright citrus, like tangerines. Milk sugar. Vanilla. Fascinating. Taste is a little bit less interesting. Tangerine up front. Lots more creamy milk flavors. Vanilla throughout. The taste is just a bit less bright and dynamic than the nose. Medium body and pretty creamy. I've had a couple other variants of these Milkshakes and they had diacetyl. This one does not and it is vastly better.

This is an odd beer. The look is like murky lemon water, the aroma is more lemon and lots of citrus. The taste is the weird part - sherbet up front, almost sour mid range and strong citrus orange and lemon on the finish. The mouthfeel is thick and fantastic. But - overall... this beer is good to try but won't be revisiting it.

This is good. But be warned. This is thick and tastes like a thick lemony sherbet delight. Not what I'm looking for in an IPA. But it's an interesting twist on a New England style IPA. Very glad to have tried, but will pass on having again. Just took another sip....wow?

Pours a hazy orangeish yellow with a one finger head and minimal lacing. The smell is mainly orange and pineapple along with some general citrus and piney hops. Taste follows the nose with sweet orange like an orange soda along with pineapple, tropical fruits, some vanilla, and a hint of bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel with low to medium carbonation.

16 oz can, dated 6/2/16, poured into a teku

A- Super hazy golden straw with a slight orange tint and a two finger white head.

S- Tropical fruits, sweet oranges/clementines, kumquat, hints of mango, some fruit punch like qualities, hints of piney hops, and some vanilla bring everything together.

T- Not as bright and vibrant as the nose, fruity, oranges, hints of lime, kumquat, faint mango, piney, slightly dank, again the lactose and vanilla bring everything together.

M- Smooth, creamy, medium body.

O- This is my second milkshake and it's a good one, very well done! Easy to drink

Love this milkshake series!

Pours cloudy, ulta-light yellow milk. Bursting with lime and clementine aromas.

Taste hits the tip of your tongue and washing with a delicate, dank creaminess. Calamansi is very apparent and welcomed.

Big thanks to rudzud for this one.

Light foamy fizzy head fades fairly quickly, some spotty lacing, murky milk shake tangerine orange color.

Nose is bursting Clementine, tons of citrus, orange pith and just straight up Clementine like I just ripped the skin off fresh Clementine fruit, little kumquat tartness, mild creamy lactose background, hint of toasted oat, little pith, hint of booze, some vanilla late like orange vanilla cream, orange creamscicle.

Taste is more awesomeness, tons of orange cream, like a tasty orange creamscicle. Great vanilla, creamy lactose, toasty oats, etc. Then Clementine city like bring into fresh Clementine, rind and juicy center, little tangerine orange. Kumquat tart citrus, lots of creamy candy citrus, fair bitterness, and tartness, faint orange cake spices, cake candy malt. Touch pineapple late, drier slightly sticky and tart finish, touch flemmy, lingering tons of orange cake, orange creamy icing, Clementine cream and vanilla.

Mouth is med bod, nice creamy, no real booze, decent carb esp for growler.

Overall incredible.

Shared with JLindros.

A - Poured into a Kate the Great tulip a hazy golden orange with a good one finger white head that fades to leave light wisps and lacing.

S - Aromas explode with citrus. Super fresh and ripe clementine with flashes of tart kumquat. The finish is all vanilla and cream with light oats. Orange creamsicle like. The nose just explodes with citrus and vanilla cream. Wow.

T - Taste is similar to the nose. The citrus orange going on is incredible just incredible. The citrus blends perfectly with the creamy oats that fades to dry creamy lactose. The malts offer a pleasant backbone, which when combined with the citrus tastes almost cake like. The finish has loads of vanilla with a nice lightly bitter orange oil finish. Wow.

M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, however, the body is spot on with the oats bringing creaminess and the lactose bringing dryness.

O - Overall this beer was a homerun as far as delivery. The citrus notes are phenomenal and the oats and lactose when combined with the vanilla create magic. Like a tarter orange Julius you get at the mall. Absolutely incredible. Hats off to Tired Hands.

32 oz growler. Hazy yellow-orange body. Thin bubbly white head. Minor lacing and retention. Aromas of vanilla, orange, sweet cream and citrus hops. Flavor is citrus fruit (mainly orange), vanilla, moderately bitter hops and a creamy mouth feel.
