Hazy yellow-tan-orange with a thin bubbly blanket leaving spongy bubbly lace on the glass.
Smell is dank burnt rubber contrasted by oddly soft apple cider vinegar and green pepper.
Taste is spicy and semi-bitter, with odd notes of peanut butter mixed in with the classic pine and grapefruit combo.
Tangy yet soft, this has a filling froth through a medium-full body, finishing semi-dry.

Tasted in a Rastal Teku from a 1 pint can on March 9, 2018. Astronaut ice cream sandwich DIPA. Brewed with raw wheat and hundreds of astronaut ice cream sandwiches in the kettle. Conditioned on Madagascar vanilla beans and cacao nibs. Intensely hopped and dry hopped with Galaxy, Simcoe and Cascade.

On tap at Tired Hands Fermentaria in Ardmore, PA.
This one pours a fairly hazy golden yellow- it looks very creamy. There’s a small white head, and lots of lacing.
I don’t find any ice cream or chocolate on the nose, but I do smell some light vanilla, with lemon creamsicle, grapefruit, and mango.
This is disappointing in that it doesn’t really taste much like ice cream. There’s a little bit of creaminess from the vanilla, which is nice. Despite missing the intended flavor profile for me, it’s still a pretty tasty IPa nonetheless. There’s a interesting lemon juice flavor on the finish. The flavor is slightly distracting as I didn’t expect it.
This is very creamy and thick, with a normal level of carbonation.
This is far from the best TH beer, but it’s still tasty enough.

Pours a murky apricot puree color with a finger of airy, bubbly white head.
The aroma is relatively standard for these guys, if maybe a little on the understated side for them: tropical fruits and light peach stand out the most.
There's a flash of herbal and tropical hops at first in the taste, but it has a very clear chocolatey, ice-cream-sandwich-cookie-esque element within it in the back of the mouth when swallowing. There's a hint of vanilla ice cream as well that comes and goes. The beer has a mildly bitter finish with a touch green, unripened mango in the aftertaste.
The feel is again pretty normal for Tired Hands: soft, full without being heavy. I will say that, for me, the cacao addition does actually evoke an impression of the soft, chewiness of an ice cream sandwich cookie.
This was much better than I expected. The ice cream sandwich is plopped within a standard TH DIPA. Is that something I'd want often? Probably not. But as a novelty beer, it delivers as promised.

From the Instagram post for today's release: "The first in our highly conceptual Pink Moon series of beers, Things Behind the Sun is an Astronaut Ice Cream Sandwich Double IPA. Brewed with raw wheat and hundreds of astronaut ice cream sandwiches in the kettle. Conditioned on pungent Madagascar vanilla beans and cocao nibs. Intensely hopped and dry hopped with Galaxy, Simcoe, and the all-mighty Cascade. Really beautiful notes of orange creamsicle, apricot sorbet, peach pie, subtle white chocolate, and faint hope. Please..." Interesting effort but not as tasty as other TH DIPAs.
