A freaked out riff on Nothing, our everyday black beer. Constructed from a base of British Marris Otter malt as well as a selection of very dark malts and a touch of lactose sugar. Hopped gently with Chinook and conditioned on cacao, Madagascar vanilla beans, and Brazilian coffee roasted at our Awake Minds facility.

on draft at the Fermentaria

black in color, thick tan colored head, and good head retention. wonderful aroma of dark cocoa, espresso, and vanilla. similar flavors, very complex for such a low abv beer. roasty, yet has a touch of sweetness. medium bodied, slick full mouthfeel.

A coffee beer, really, with a little lactose.

Initial looks were typical nitro for the presumed pour type. They do mention the use of coffee and that’s a huge component of this beer, especially in the nose.

The head evaporates slowly, and results in fairly large bubbles around the rim with a whisper of an island atop the black body.

Coffee, coffee, and a little chocolate firm the bulk of the aroma. A little vanilla and brownie peek through here and there. Taste shows more of a roasty beer, with the coffee adding to that more than dominating it. A little roasted grain to woodsy bitterness in back counters the light touch of lactose sweetness.

As a coffee beer, this is pretty strong. Style would be hard to pinpoint, the brewery says “special black beer” with a touch of lactose.
