First had: on tap at their brewpub

Collaboration with Teresa's and Station Taproom.

The 5 "R's" here are explained this way: "Brewed with Rye in the mash, Ramon nut and Roses in the boil, and fermented atop 10lbs of local Rhubarb and 10lbs of golden Raisins!"

Mid-sized pour, golden yellow color, hazy, with a huge puff of white head that settled down to a thick layer of foam leaving sheets of lacing on the glass. Aroma is decently complex with a hit of typical saison funk up front, floral notes and raisin sweetness. It may not really be possible to pick out each distinct ingredient here, but the blend of said ingredients truly made for a unique beer. I got the fruity sweetness from the raisin and rhubarb up front in the taste, with a mild phenolic character that was actually quite complimenting, floral notes, bready yeast, light potpourri, grassiness; nothing really jumped out as a distinct rye or nut quality. Smooth, light-medium body, soft carbonation, higher alcohol level virtually non-perceivable. Overall impression: unique, tasty, drinkable, yum.

On Tap at The Brew Cafe in Ardmore.

R5 was brewed with a lot of heart and a lot of ingredients with some peeps from the Philly suburbs who keep the good stuff flowing in their bars. The beer has a off orange look with some faded bronze and lemon intertwined. Again I am graced with a inch of firm white foam that does not cling to the glass as much as other TH'S beers. The musk on this is something else. While this is a saison, the grassiness takes a backseat to the Rhubarb and Raisins. A small aroma of rye pops out with some malt with warming. I cant really place my nose on it, this is something unique. The taste reminds me of a mash up song with many different elements that come close to coming together, but not quite. I get the rhubarb and rose used in the brewing and get a lot of the raisins in the finish. Hopping is not the forefront here and takes a backseat here as well as the signature saison tastes from TH'S. This is truly a hybrid saison, but aren't they all. The body is medium with a semi sweet aftertaste, and not a drying quality towards the end. Not my favorite TH'S beer, but a great effort non the less. I don't think I'll be seeing this one again.

on tap at the brewery

Pours a clouded golden orange with a thick froth of white head, leaving some patchy lacing behind.

Sweet and funky in the nose with floral and spicy notes followed by some rye and raisins.

Floral and spicy up front with light hoppiness. Rye and pepper gives way to sweetness with raisin and rhubarb. Decent backbone underneath, finishes a little sweet and funky.

Fuller medium body, nice creaminess on the tongue. A little sweet for my liking but a pretty interesting combo of flavors with rye, raisins, nuts, rhubarb, etc.

This beer poured out as a golden orange color with a white head on top. The retention was pretty good on this beer as well as the lacing. The smell of this beer was a little bit on the spicy side, some sweet malts in there as well. The taste was pretty interesting, the 5 "R's" really give this a dynamic flavor profile. It ranges from sweet to earthy and then has some bitterness in there also. It's really all over the place but still interesting. The mouthfeel of the beer is a little high in carbonation, it's got a crisp finish to it and is also dry. Overall it's not my favorite Saison, but it was fun to try.
