A nice, easy to drink lager. One of the better beers in this price range. $2.99 for a 22oz tallboy. Definitely above average. I'd pick this over most mainstream American beers.

--amber pour, malt is prominent in aroma and flavor. This is a malty lager, but lacks the crispness and dry finish of the regular version that I much prefer ( on some occasions).

I like regular Sapporo but the Reserve is really great. It's light, crisp and refreshing. I like everything about this beer. I can drink a lot of this. There's nothing odd or offensive to me, it just hits the spot.

This beer is classified as "Euro Pale Lager", so I am guessing it's in similar category as Heineken, Stella, and all other mainstream European big name lagers. But I think Reserve is in it's own league. It's just much more balanced and pleasant to drink, I'd take it over any of those any day. If it was as easy to find as regular Sapporo, I'd make it my go to beer along with some other favorites of mine (like Konig Pilsner, Bitburger, Urquell).

Aroma is relatively strong malts and fruit in the background. The flavor is malts, a hint of caramel, fruit and a mix of clean and mild/medium sweetness in the finish.

It says it's "reserve," which I thought usually meant "fancy," but it cost the exact same as the regular stuff. Such are the mysteries of beer.

Pours way, way darker than regular Sapporo: a deep, clear gold with a wonderfully large head.

Smells crisp but, again, much more complex and interesting that their regular offering. Fruity malt with some light herbal nodes. Very little hop presence, but the grain bill is interesting enough to carry the beer by itself.

Tastes like a good, low-hopped German pils, only with a sweeter and more floral grainbill than what you get from European brewers. The beer is somewhat intricate, with enough flavor and complication to keep beer nerds interested while still be straightfoward and drinkable enough to appeal to your everyday drinkers. It's not world class, but it's definitely well-brewed.

If this were sold under another brand name, I believe its scores would be higher. As is, however, the Sapporo moniker means this beer can be bought at a reasonable price, and that's a fine thing .

1-30-17 - Bottle poured into a glass at SugarFish in Los Angeles. Everything tastes awesome here. Service is impeccable. This one was certainly complemented by all of this. I'll get it again one day.

Nice clear gold with two finger of white five minute head. Good rings of lace.
Smell is malts.
Taste is rich malt with a bit of grassy hop in the end.
Mouthfeel is light to medium with good carbonation. Finish is semi dry with a touch of hop bitterness.
Overall a decent beer for the style.
