BREWMASTER JACK AMBREWSIA IPA 8/7/15

Bottled in March so this is an oldie. Bought about six weeks ago so some of the age is my fault.

Poured from the 12 oz. bottle into a Sierra Nevada IPA glass

a: Hazy orange with a huge two plus inch thick white head which receded slowly to thick surface foam and dense patterned lacing. Impressive.

s: Dank pine resin.

t: Intense pine resin up front over a medium bready malt base. Bitterness lingers and adds strong grassy notes,. Dry finish.

m: Medium, good body and plenty of carbonation tingle.

o; A surprisingly good older offering from BJ, definitely worth trying a fresher bottle to see if the flavor has been affected any by age. 80 IBUs so very near or at DIPA strength hoppiness.

This beers smells amazing. Taste isn't quite as good as it smells but still very good. Would be a higher rating but it just kept foaming out of the bottle. I didn't drop it or anything so weird. Could only take 2-3 sips, all I was getting was foam. Decent tasting foam though.

Even at around 3 months old, this is a damn good IPA. Plenty of flavorful, juicy citrus notes alongside a lingering, pithy bitterness make for an assertively hoppy brew. A bit of sweet caramel and toffee provide just enough balance.

I've tried 3 great beers from Jack and no duds. An awesome, under the radar brewery. Hope I get to try more!

Can't go wrong with Brewmaster Jack, and this is no exception. Nice hop/malt balance with a citrus taste and piney/resin finish. Not as flavorful as the BJ DIPAs and hop essence series, but this is a solid, if not memorable, IPA.

Poured into a Haw River Farmhouse Ales teku glass. Notches indicate that it was bottled in March 2015.

A- Pours a hazy medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white fluffy head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a large center patch of sheer surface foam. Semi-resilient slivers of lacing.

S- Very fruity hop aroma brings to mind orange and potpourri spice. Also a bit grassy with a slight booze fume.

T- Taste follows suit with some peach, mango and melon notes with a restrained bitterness. Very easy to drink for the ABV. The fruit complexity continues with grapefruit rind and apricot.

M- Somewhat dry with medium carbonation and a body leaning toward the lighter side.

O- This IPA is pretty much all citrus rind which is nice if you're looking for a hoppy beer that focuses more on the fruity aspects, isn't heavy on the bitterness and also isn't too sweet. First I've had from this brewer and I'm impressed.
