Two finger, frothy head. The liquid is nearly black. No light shines through on the edge. A cross between blanket and ring lace comes from each sip.

Smooth dark chocolate with cream for the nose. Some coffee notes (comes across as mocha). Not bitter.

The taste has more of a burnt flavor than the smell indicates. This makes the beer more bitter even though I don't detect any hop presence. The beer is dry as the rye monicker would lead one to envision. The body is on the thin side and the elevated carbonation enhances this impression.

Appearance: 1 inch head, opaque, black colored, with high carbonation

Smell: BOSCO, char, and light cream

Taste: cream and rye seed throughout with char, milk chocolate, and light white bread

Mouthfeel: medium body, sweet with char bitterness, moderate carbonation

Overall: Interesting super smooth brew that tastes a lot better than it smells. The beer gets a lot better as it warms as the rye seed becomes more pronounced. I would get this again.

Poured into a snifter.

A: 1-finger of creamy brown head which recedes to a thin film. Beer is extremely dark brown/black and opaque.

S: First smell I get is the chocolate, followed by the spicy notes from the rye and some smoke.

T: Similar to the smell. I get chocolate, spicy rye, and some smokiness. A little bitter from the hops. Leaves a nice smoky aftertaste.

M: Smooth, creamy, with a dry finish.

O: A really interesting and delicious beer. I really liked Ambrewsia, so I figured I would give it a try, and am not disappointed. For $4.95 a bomber, it was a great buy.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on May 30, 2016.

The pour is a deep dark brown to near black with a tremendous and foamy tan head. Highly carbonated.

The aroma brings out chocolate and cocoa malts, rye grain, and just general sweetness with a low hop profile.

Light to more medium body.

The flavor has a kind of smokiness that I did not pick up on the nose with the same cocoa and grainy malt presence and mild bitterness to follow.

Had this at the Valley Brew Fest. Served in a sampler size glassware provided by the festival. The beer had a dark black appearance with a brown-colored thick head that eventually dissipated. Aromas were rich in burnt coffee, chocolate, malt, raisins, and a little bit of vanilla. Very sweet drink, almost like a frappe in terms of texture and flavoring; a generally roasted coffee and chocolate mixture in a creamy body. Great balance with the moderate carbonation and creamy body to the drink. Overall, this was a fantastic drink over at this brew fest and a great one from this establishment.

Poured into an Elysian snifter. Pours opaque black with a half finger light brown head with good retention and lacing. Nice aroma of toasted malt, light chocolate and coffee and slight lactose. Flavor is toasted malt, milk chocolate, lightly charred coffee a light spicy fruitiness from the rye and mild milky lactose, nicely balanced. Medium bodied with some light creaminess, good for this moderate ABV. A nice porter with a pretty tasty variety of flavors. The rye presence is not that noticeable as a component, but seem to add an interesting light spicy flavor the otherwise toasty, lightly charred malt background. I'm pleased with this much flavor from a standard strength porter. A gift from my sister, but if I ever saw it again, I'd grab it.

Got $5.00 1PT 6OZ bottle in a local store.
In the glass looks and smells nice, not as dense as Guiness. Color is pitch black, as we say in Russia - "lights out". It's rye - definitely can tell after first sip. Bottle says "contains lactose" - I do feel milk taste in a very nice way. I like the foam on top stays for long pronouncing creaminess of this delicious beer.

Pours a dark brown color, approaching black, decent sized light brown head but no lacing is left on the glass.

Smell is a mix of roasted malt and a heavy hand of molasses, touches of cocoa.

Taste starts out with the roasted malt front, cocoa has a much larger flavor presence, light toasted aspect, rye isn't too strong or spicy like it can be, carbonation is soft but ample, body is medium neither too thick or thin.

Nothing stands out to make this porter break from the pack but it is well crafted and satisfying.
