A bit surprised at this one, as I think they made a noble attempt at one of my favourite styles. The pour, the colour and the head are all spot on. The vanilla is clearly established and gives a good balance to the coffee, although I do have a bit of a problem with the amount of sugar added, as it leaves my lips sticky after each sip. But where it all falls apart, is at the almost total lack of booziness. This beer should never have been floated at 4.8% ABV, but I suspect that this was a way to circumvent the harsh Ontario rules, regarding the mixing of caffeine and alcohol. As it is, the watery taste and thin body makes this whole project a should-have-been/could-have-been kind of proposition.
For an amazing version of this style, try New Holland's Dragon's Milk and you will be blown away. With less sugar, aging in barrel and developing the required booziness (at a robust 11%), it's clear that there is a winning way to make this style more memorable. Double Trouble tried but never really came close.

This pours a nice deep brown/black with a nice two finger head. The head broke down slowly leaving nice wisps of foam, but little lacing. The smell is sweet vanilla with coffee coming on strong too. Taste is not as sweet as the smell as coffee bitterness comes through quite strong. Feel is thin with a fine carbonation. Not a bad beer, but I wouldn't seek it out again.

Serving Type: 473 mL Can

A- Pours a black opaque liquid topped by a 1 1/2 finger off-white head with excellent retention. Heavy lacing.

S- Vanilla and sweetened coffee. Almost a slight marshmallow scent.

T- As the name would suggest, vanilla is a main feature here although it does so without being overly sweet. Shove in some sweet-ish coffee notes (fruity) and you have the flavour of this beer.

M- Medium-Light body and Low carbonation. A little thinner than I was expecting.

O-Overall, a great sweet stout with solid vanilla flavour. More in the background, but that just means I can drink this beer for more than just dessert.

Bought at a Beer Store, 473mL can, around $3 Cdn. Opened at around 12 degrees C.

Appearance - Pours black with lots of carbonation. I held this up to the sun & it looked almost like rootbeer; not as thick black as some stouts - thin lacing which fades quickly.

Aroma - You can definitely smell the vanilla; some coffee smell as well.

Taste - Definitely vanilla, not too strong but somewhat more than subtle. Rich coffee with a hint of some fruitiness (black currants?) & with a pretty smooth finish which just hints a mild hoppy bitterness

Feel - Light and bubbly - I wish it were a smoother fuller feel, but it almost had the mouthfeel of a rootbeer as well.

Overall - It's a decent beer & was worth a try for the neat vanilla character but I wish it had a fuller, smoother taste & feel. As mentioned before, not bad for a 4.8%. Would drink again, but as a regular, I'll take my St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout any day.

Pours - Jet black with light brown head, nice lacing.

Smell - The smell is awesome, rich ground coffee, great vanilla and sweet milk chocolate. When you read the label this beer delivers on smell and taste.

Taste - Follows the smell very closely, great coffee flavors, rich creamy vanilla, sweet milk chocolate. Excellent.

Feel - Very smooth this was the only downfall it was a little thin but for a 4.8% stout I expected that.

Overall - Great beer flavor and smell are awesome.

Appearance - This beer pours a deep black color with 1 1/2 fingers of off white head, The head fades to a ring fairly quickly which is why I'm taking points off.

Aroma - Rich coffee roasted malts and sweet vanilla which smell delicious together.

Taste - Again rich coffee and some roasty malts balanced perfectly by some sweet vanilla and a touch of earthy hops. Nothing overly complicated but it doesnt need to be.

feel - surprisingly light medium body, Soft velvety smooth carbonation mild bitterness due to the sweetness combating it.

Overall - This is a decent vanilla stout overall, The flavors come together beautifully creating a nice smooth sweet beer with a balancing bitter taste. So far the only milk/ vanilla stouts I liked more than this were DDC's Aphrodisiaque and New Holland's Dragons milk which seeing as its 11% is a much more full stout. This is really not a bad beer for 4.8%

Can: Poured alight black color stout with a large light brown foamy head with good retention. Aroma of nice floral coffee notes, with some hazelnut and chocolate notes also prevalent. Taste is a nice mix between floral coffee notes with limited bitterness, hazelnut and light black chocolate notes with hints of residual sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. I wasn’t expecting much but this is a pleasant surprise.
