Notes / Commercial Description:
Xocoveza Mocha Stout is the result of the homebrewing spirit and a cross-border collaboration. In 2014, Stone Brewing invited us to join them on this Mexican-Hot-Chocolate inspired creation. Based on Chris Banker's winning recipe, we created this rich and decadent Imperial Milk Stout with traditional Mexican ingredients. In your hands you have Insurgente's version of this for the first time on this side of the border. ¡Salud!

Loved the Stone version of this back when it was Xocoveza for the Holidays & the New Year, giving it a 4.44. Had this version back just a month or so back in March when I brought it to Vegas for a bottleshare. Really liked it, maybe even more than the Stone one. Then wrote, “Very nice. More chocolate and cocoa, and less spicier than Stone’s version. Love it. Almost some horchata in there.” Hope the review follows.

Poured a black color with two fingers of frothy tan head. Serene setting underneath. Very good sporadic lacing. Outstanding retention. (Sight - 4.00)

Smelled cocoa, dark chocolate, light cinnamon, nutmeg, horchata, dark coffee, subdued dry chili pepper, sugary vanilla frosting, anise, hints of black licorice and semi-char wood. (Smell - 4.25)

Tasted more flavorful than the nose with a little more kick. Got cocoa, bitter woody cinnamon stick, horchata, anise, nutmeg, dark coffee, chili pepper powder, slight char wood and black licorice. (Taste - 4.25)

Full body. Oily texture. Average carbonation. Long, warming, slightly spicy finish. (Feel - 4.00)

Not quite as good as I remember it from just a few months ago. I prefer Stone’s version. (Overall - 4.00)

Black pour with a brown one-finger head. Big coffee and espresso aroma. Taste has coffee and lightly roasted dark malts upfront. Full body also has slight heat from the peppers and tastes of vanilla, chocolate and light cinnamon. Very creamy body. The heat builds a bit as the beer warms. Finishes with a slightly bitter espresso flavor.

Disclaimer: I am by no means a worthy judge as my senses of smell and taste are nothing to brag about. This is just my opinion, and may not be yours.

Poured a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. No head, like none. Color is an extremely dark brown. Couldn't really smell much so I gave it a stir to create some head (which was quite nice looking) and after that I could mostly smell nutmeg. Taste is pretty much a good stout, but with nutmeg. I enjoyed it overall. Could have had just a bit more body, but worth trying even at $16 for a 6 pack. I'm stashing 4 of them in my cellar to see how they evolve over the years.

Tan head. Black color.

Much similar to stones version of xocovesa. Maybe a touch more flavor.

Full bodied. Nice roast. Smooth and creamy. Light pepper heat.

Solid beer. Fun to try!
