Had on tap. Murky goldenrod body with foam islands on the surface. Smell has a sweet booziness to it as the base, honey, wildflowers, sweet malt, lemon and fruit esters. The first sip hits you hard with brandy like booze, wow. But subsequent sips bring out more the botanicals, honey, malt and esters with some faint biscuit. Feel is light and boozy, malty the whole way. Different take on the style, very odd but hey it pairs well with German sausage

I had this on draft 8/29/23 @ the Hopleaf.

Mostly opaque orange appearance.

Minimal khaki head; almost no lacing remained.

Honey, autumn leaf & leather notes in the nose.

Thick mouthfeel.

Honey, well preserved library book, dry leather & booze heat flavors.

A bit harsher than the other Schloss Eggenberg gems, but it's still enjoyable.

Clear, golden toned body; beautiful carbonation; thick, frothy head. Vibrant aroma; spicy hop notes and terse caramel presence; cloves; very faint floral suggestions. The taste follows closely along the lines of the smell; sweet malt; spicy hop flavors; cloves and cardamon; light alcohol presence in the background; diacetyl note. Heavy body; sticky sweetness.

An interesting and flavorful pale double bock from Austria. The ABV on the can was listed as 10.5% vice the brewery's web site which lists it at 9.6%. It may be a bit too sweet overall yet still has an interesting sensory presence.

11.2oz'er poured into a hotel cup in Rochester after being asked for drugs in Faribault by a punk with pink hair - it's been a long day

Dark, sweet, and creamy. Tons of honey sweetness with some root beer-ish spice and a touch of dark fruit. Very enjoyable/dangerous sitting at ~9%. Too sweet and kinda reminds me of malt liquor, good otherwise

L - Golden with a white head that dissipates quickly leaving behind a thin white cap with no real lacing to speak of
S - Tons of honey and light fruit esters
T - Tons of honey up front and throughout - light fruit esters (grape, melon), hints of caramel, alcohol peeks through at the end, floral notes, toffee
F - Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation - somewhat syrupy
O - I'm not sure how I feel about this one - it's got good qualities, but it's a little "bright", if that's the right word in the flavor profile of what I expect when it comes to bock

11.2oz bottle (no date) served in a Achouffe tulip glass.

Appearance: Mostly clear dark gold color with a tint of amber to it - just a bit of haze. Thin white head with some thick strands/sheets of lacing that slowly slid back down the glass. Given the high ABV, I'm surprised there is much lacing at all .

Smell: Quite malty, with a definite note of white grapes. Classic doppelbock aroma.

Taste: Tastes quite a bit like what it smells like, with some definite caramel notes and grape/fruity notes. However, there is quite a wallop of noble hop bitterness at the finish which is very surprising for this style of beer. It's a sharp bitter contrast to the malty sweetness and it's slightly off-putting for this style.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth and very thick, with some warming at the finish from the higher alcohol. Light carbonation. Very sticky on the teeth like there is a bit of hop oil in this beer.

Overall / Drinkability: The brewer is not kidding that this is one of the stronger beers in the world. I've certainly had higher ABV beers, but this one comes out swinging. The hops are aggressive at the finish, and it's actually a bit difficult to finish. Unbalanced is how I would describe this beer, especially for a doppelbock which is usually a wonderful glass of malty delight. This beer has part of that, but it's overwhelmed by the hops. So great look, great smell, great mouthfeel - not so good taste. Oh well - worth a try.

10.5% ABV, best by April 2023.

Pours a clear, crisp amber color. The head is two fingers high with an off-white color. It has a fluffy, frothy texture, though is quick to fade away. Very little lace clings to the glass.

Toasted malts, light caramel, and toffee are expressive on the nose, as is leather and mushroom. It almost seems sour - not tart sour, but musty sour. In other words, alcohol is quite evident. There's also a very light hint of citrus, and I do mean light. Not the most interesting high-gravity monster I've ever inhaled, but certainly different from the usual gaggle of bwizzles and pastry stouts.

The flavor profile is heavy on the caramel, toffee, and leather. I also pick up notes of mushroom and tobacco. It's a fairly boozy product, too...but hey, it's 10.5%. I Just wished it had a bolder flavor profile. Maybe some more defined notes of brown sugar, a richer caramel character, something. It's not balanced badly, it just seems a little too utilitarian for its own good.

Lumpy and syrupy on the palate (despite not having a particularly sweet flavor), and part of that is caused by the low carbonation. It just feels heavy for the sake of feeling heavy, without a satisfying creaminess to back it up. Nonetheless, it is a true sipping beer, with the appropriate warming sensation felt in the stomach. Being a lager, there is a mild crispy bite to the finish that helps out somewhat...just somewhat.

Interesting. Not great, but interesting. On the plus side, at least it isn't as hopelessly sweet as its big brother Samichlaus Helles. Worth a try, I guess, but I'm not buying it again.

330 ml bottle, kindly shared by our beerpal Olav. ABV 9.6%. Golden colour, low white head. Herbal aroma, a hint of caramel and alcohol. Rather sweet flavour, some caramel and alcohol, really not my cup of tea.
