12 oz bottle- " Born on2015/9/22"....this years? last years? Shelf turd or do they not put it out right away?

Anyway...lets give it try... Pours a very dark shade of brown , near black and lifts an initially huge dark tan head, slowly receedes and leaves some low sheeting and some strands and blobs of lacing.

Nose is of rum soaked raisins, which is nice, but I also get an off putting plastic note

On the palate, I again get the welcome rum/raisin combo, with some dark chololate....meh, something is not right with this beer...again, its tastse like some plastic has been added to the fermentor...

On the thin side for the style...sorry Relic Brewing but whats left of this one is goin down the drain....

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter.
The beer pours a deep cola brown with garnet highlights. Very little light passes through the glass. Densely packed cream colored head of 1 cm foams up and fades to an edge layer.
Aroma is malty through and through with chocolate and some brown sugar. No real hints of booze or hops on this one. Some dark fruit comes through as well, mostly raisins. The nose is fairly mild overall.
First sip reveals a silky smooth body with very fine yet slightly tingly carbonation. Texture coats my palate after each sip.
Flavor is malty as well with some toffee and brown sugar. I do get some spicy yeast notes and the beer finishes very dry.
Interesting and very easy to drink. Malty flavors and the physical traits make this one a winner. Worth a shot if you like malty beers.

Poured into Relic tulip

A: Pours a deep mahogany-red, with a thin, off-khaki color head.

S: Candi sugar and mocha aromas with a whiff of fruit.

T: More roasted malt than I was expecting. Flavors of good, single-origin lightly roasted coffee intertwine with light nutty and candy sugar tones. Earthy yeast notes are present as well along with cacao and hints of dark fruit. Roasted tones last through the finish.

M: Moderate to higher carbonation with a medium to viscous body.

O: To me, this is more like a Belgian inspired stout in the vein of Allagash Black rather than a true BSDA. Belgian flavors are here but this is definitely an American brew. I like this beer, but it's not what I was expecting. I might have preferred a little more malty sweetness, but overall a solid brew.

Deep mahogany brown with a tightly bubbled light brown head that settles out quickly. Aroma of dark malt and yeasty notes. Flavor matches the nose nearly exactly. Full mouthfeel, but finishes tingly. Decent beer, but not overly complex.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. I have had a couple of their beers in bombers previously; now they are distributing 12 oz 4 packs. The body of the beer is dark, dark brown, with a caramel colored head that recedes quickly, leaving nominal lacing. The aroma is quite sweet, befitting of a beer that is brewed with dark candy syrup. The first sip starts off sweet, but soon yields to sour, like a well made chinese dish. Just a hint of bitterness at the end, with a clean finish is totally unexpected due to that initial malty sweetness. I really like the beers this brewery has been producing, and I am pleased that they have a wider distribution now!
