Really been enjoying Relic's hoppy beers lately, so I was happy to see some cans of this beer left after a particularly intense delivery day at my local Craft Beer Cellar location. Picked up a single of this, but definitely thinking of going back for more if it's as good as recent Relic offerings (Midnight Muse, The Mage, Silent Shroud, et al) have been.

Pours a tight, bright orange color with a thin, unassuming yet very retentive head of eggshell-white foam. Settles down to a half-finger in my glass, leaving behind some drippy lace on one hemisphere of my glass. Considering I took a small sip before writing any of these words, that makes a lot of sense, but I really do love the slight translucence/major opacity here in combination with the awesome, deep coloration. Just an awesome looking beer, as all of these have been lately. I love when breweries step things up, and Relic is doing great work.

So, this is double dry-hopped with a hop varietal called Meridian. This hop was apparently introduced as early as 2012, but it has only seen any real commercial usage/success recently. It's supposedly kind of like Mosaic but with less alpha acid intensity. It apparently resembles a halfway point between Citra and Glacier... anyway, this beer has an intense nose that displays strong cantaloupe, ruby-red grapefruit, raspberry, blackberry and orchard fruit elements with a strong and apparent hit of ethanol. This 8% IPA does very little to hide its alcohol, that's for sure. I know just what I'm getting here. Honestly, I've felt this way about all of the Relic IPAs I've had though... it's not a flaw... it's kind of a feature honestly. I much prefer these bigger IPAs to sell themselves as, well, "bigger" beers.

The palate is thick with hops... it has a heavier-than-expected body and almost-syrupy disposition which nevertheless displays some intense hop acrobatics. Flavors of stone fruit (apricot, plum) mix with complex citrus and melon. Some berry and pine resin elements remind me of Mosaic here, but the malt bill and clean yeast yield surprising results. I mostly get the aforementioned fruity flavors with some earthier notes toward the finish. A very clean, defined and professional product here.

Feel is heavy and "fruit cocktail"-like with a semi-syrupy disposition. For an 8% beer in the current IPA market, it's a bit heavier than I expected. It's a touch oilier than I figured as well, considering Meridian hops are a bit less oleic than other newer-school hop varietals. Might be nitpicking, though. Anyone into complex new-school IPAs such as those being peddled by Finback, et al will find something to love here for sure. I need more of this very soon. Relic is quickly becoming a very awesome yet unsung force in the new-school IPA world. I have no doubt they'll be catching on soon enough with stuff like this on the shelves.

Look: Orange - Gold color, slightly cloudy, substantial but thin head.
Smell: Extensive pleasant fruity hop smell
Taste; Citrus taste, I know it has Meridian Hops, but it tastes a bit like a citra hop
Feel: Like a double IPA, smooth going down, a bit of tongue tingle

Canned on 8/22/18

Pours an mostly opaque orange topped with a small, half-finger of white head; short head retention but a pretty heavy spattering of lacing.

Aroma of grapefruit juice, hints of pine needles, some dank but bright resin, orange peel, cantaloupe, crisp apples, pineapple zest, an slight agave twist, and a delicate cloud of ethanol; floral, herbal, and very tropical citrus.

Taste is doused with grapefruit juice, lime zest, cantaloupe, dank pineapple, and tangerine; bright but deeply herbal tropical citrus gives this a unique edge.

Mouthfeel is very light-bodied, almost thin at times, but is overcome with an outright juiciness; smooth with no alcohol bite; finishes quite cleanly, and stays juicy with a light crispness.

Unique DIPA here; the flavor profile has alot going on, with plenty of tropical herbaceousness beneath a shroud of citrus. Maybe not executed as perfectly as it could have been, but is interesting, easy, and still ultimately enjoyable.

12 oz can into IPA glass. Dated 8/22/18.
Look is beautiful golden haze that leads to nice tropical nose with orange and some melon. Taste follows nose pretty much with a nice little dry ending. Feel is smooth and creamy. Overall a very nice IIPA.

Hazy honey amber liquid pours a one finger white foam cap, settles to a soft creamy layer, good lacings

Fragrant aroma of citrus, acantaloupe, grapefruit, raspberry and a whiff of peppery spice

Taste of citrus, melon, bit of peppery spice on the finish

Good sudsing, good body, get a bit of the alcohol

Good beer from my good son
