Pale bronze, almost dark gold. Fizzy – not a great head.

Fresh grain aroma – FRESH. GRAIN. Pure caramel malt, Crunchy Nut, sweetcorn. Is there anything else? Nah, not really. This is obviously all about the malt.

Flavor wise: it's toast with marmalade, but a little bit angry. Bread with coarse flour, kneaded by someone with troubles at home. Marmalade made by someone who isn't getting paid enough to harvest oranges. Tangy, bittersweet, lip-smacking. This is for drinking with people you'd rather not be with.

Fizzy, boozy, tangy, angry, grainy. To be honest this is almost in the same category as something like Carlsberg Special Brew – but it's a little more refined than that. This is a white collar crime beer.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a medium golden amber with a fine, one finger white head with good retention and thick lacing. Aroma of biscuit and mildly dry caramel malt, apple and mild nuttiness. Flavor is biscuit and dry caramel malt, brown bread, light dates and nuts; finishes light with a mild bitterness and husky grain. Medium bodied with light creaminess. A nicely presented bock that starts out pretty well with solid malt and bread flavors, but kind of thins out into the finish with grainy bitterness that somewhat overwhelms the bready malt. An authentic tasting, but rather light doppelbock.

-clear mahogany bottle pour with a thin, tan foam ring. Theere is a bit of candi sugar in the aroma and a bit of allspice. The flavor is honey malt with some caramel. The body is light, but some richness persists on the back of the tongue. -an enjoyable brew

Clear medium amber body under a coupla fingers of off-white foam... Lots of sweet warmth and gentle spice, toasty brown bread and molasses with clove and nutmeg... Light and smooth, little shellac across the palate lingers... Too easy to drink at 7.0% abv... 9/6/19 bottling...

Pours clear, gold in color with 1/3 inch head. Taste is dark bread, clove, and tart berry. Medium-heavy bodied, sweet, with moderate carbonation. Makes for an interesting, clean and tasty German lager. A little dry and not as sweet as most doppelbocks though. Really like Flensburger's beers and this one did not disappoint. Will get this again.

Poured from the bottle into a Libbey style pilsner glass.

Deep shiny bronze colored appearance, a mix of brass deepy yellow, dark copper and red. Slight amounts of fine carbonation, and a real creamy three finger off white head, with super fine bubbles. Nice looking dollops of cream like lacing and real staying power. Lighter than most doppelbocks and really beautiful.

Aroma is on faint caramel, a bit pasty sensing yeast character too, which takes aways from some of the clean sensations on the nose. Hits a little mineral like as well too. Not much diversity but a solid simple aroma in bock land.

Palate seems to go an easier route. Light bodied almost helles like but also a touch wet in flavor and mouthfeel. Still some light caramel and a bit of grass like hop quality. Finish with more of a malt bitterness than hop bitterness strangely, almost a tannic dry grain aftertaste. Still some nice simple caramel like flavors, but also hits a bit unexpectedly bitter.

Not a bad doppel but not a great or really good one unfortunately either. Perhaps this is more in the lighter bock range that would make sense. Either way I'd score it the same.

Neat smallish flip top bottle

Appearance: Bright amber gold glass holds a wispy almost cover of white. Excellent clarity.

Aroma: Apple, some corn notes, some wheat and grain notes under that.

Taste: Some mild spice notes, bit of clove, bit of DMS, a mild sweet finish.

Mouthfeel: Low medium carbonation is a bit gritty, medium body, clean finish.

Overall: A little light for a doppelbock, a little under spiced for a seasonal, drinkability is a little iffy, I'm going to give it a try but there's an off note that didn't sit well with the spices.

This poured to a nice looking amber color with a small head that lasted well. There's no lacing.

The smell is pretty good, giving heavy malt content along with a hint of the alcohol within. There's something off about the taste, though. It has rich malt but a lack of sophistiction or complexity. It's strong but plain, and not the best of flavors.

The mouthfeel is full while the drinkability takes a small hit for some flavor that missed the mark. Still, it is a decent beer.

BB 01-11-06. Nice head and a golden beer. Nose is quiet yeastspicy and maga malted with some alcohol in the back. Overall litle pale thoug and miss some good hops. Taste is also well bodied and malty with alcohol and only litle hops in the ending but again litle pale IMO for a winterbock. Well balanced though and carbonisation that is normal and fits the brew. Easy drinkable beer but IMO misses some caracter.

This beer delivers a ton of frothy white cranium that sticks up well above the glass, and has a golden clear body.

Aroma is very metallic upfront, with some huskiness amd herb in the finish. Altogether, it reminds me of tobacco.

Taste wise, the tobacco flavors are detectable. There are metallic like flavors too, and a hint of lemon.

Mouthfeel wise, its crisp and clean. However, the warming alcohol finish is detectable.

This is a good beer overall, but I wish it were a little more on the sweeter and warmer side, for this being a winter beer. Nonetheless, a good bock beer.

Purchased at the Breeze Center supermarket in Taipei; BB 18/06/2010, served chilled in a straight pint glass.

A: pours a dark orangey amber hue, good clarity, coming with relatively mild streams of medium-large sized fizz and a frothy off-white head with good retention.
S: pretty dense, sweet and aromatic in terms of maltiness, but a mild lemony edge, floral hints of German hops and semi sour-sweet pale prunes are not too far away. A good swirl brings out sweet nuts, honey, and some grassy notes of hops, but at the same time the sweetness is also thus underlined. Somehow, the nose comes too sweet on the balance, IMO.
T: better than the nose, the flavour is not that sweet at all - the lightly fizzed, semi-light bodied foretaste of sour-sweet maltiness with a touch of raw nuts(?) and hays precedes a mixed fruitiness as of marinated Chinese pale prunes with a touch of kumquat, then bringing onboard a light but lingering aftertaste of dry-ish & mildly spicy hoppiness. A faint but welcomed touch of sourness, like the doughy edge that a good lager should have, also lingers briefly in the end along with the mild bitterness.
M&D: to be frank, the palate is slightly less fizzy than ideal, but this is at least better than any overly spritzy strong lager. This medium-bodied bockbier is easy to drink but really fails to bring the lackluster flavour profile up to a different level. Hence an average stuff, at best.

330ml swingtop bottle bought from Redmonds, Dublin...

Poured a rich coppery amber colour. White head poured big, thick and fluffy then faded slowly to wispy coating with thick edging. Barely any carbonation... some faint lacing...

Aroma - Lots of sweet overripe alcohol soaked fruits (plums, raisins, apples, some cherries), marzipan / almond notes, some light Christmas spices, quite bready, wet and maybe slightly rotten grass, pepper spiciness, treacle / golden syrup notes, some toasted bread...

Taste - Quite a lot of sweet (slightly sickly ?) bready and grainy malts, spicy dried fruits (raisins, currents, figs), honey sweetness, some metallic notes, definitely some marzipan, salty hints, some peppery and grassy notes, some bitter dark sugar (muscavado ?) notes...

M&D - Sharp initally then becomes slightly cloying... medium bodied... a little sickly for my liking to be very drinkable...

Overall - A pretty average bock... a bit on the sickly side - one is more than enough... worth a try once...

300ml Serving in a food court bar off Rathaus square in Hamburg, In January in freezing weather.

Appearance - Amber golden with a full creamy head.

Smell - Sweet malts with hints of christmassy spices

Taste - Sweet malts overpower any hop profile, and alcohol is very apparent in the finish.

Mouthfeel - medium body, goes down silky smooth.

Drinkability - I sampled this in near freezing conditions so i saw this on tap for a good price and jumped at the oppurtunity. Dont know whether this biased my opinion. Silky smoothness and low carbonation allows this bock to go down easy but i didnt feel any appetite for a second. Worth a try at least

from jenny lou's in beijing

slightly tan honey color, not really amber because the red tones aren't there. clear, with moderate head that soon fades to wisps and thin ring. some lacing, although minimal.

caramel and phenols in the nose, maybe a slight buttery hint. whiff of malts. weak overall however.

malt on the palate, some earthy hop notes and very mild bitterness go into a semi-dry, semi-medicinal finish. still, overall a bit watered down.

at least the feel isn't watery. it's decently smooth with a moderate carbonation.

drinkable, but nothing impressive enough to have me seek it out again here and pay the premium price.
