Dated 9.23.11, but whether that was a ‘bottled on’ or ‘drink by’ date I have no way of knowing. Curiosity pick. Impulse purchase. And I needed a 12 oz. flip-top.
This looks murky yet translucent light golden color with a generous amount of foam that dies down, leaving a thin crème atop the pour. (Not cloudy, but not clear either.) Suspicious.) I don’t pick up much hop aroma but I do get some sweet notes. It’s not a tasty beer. Harsh, with an unbalanced sweetness and an awful musty finish that coats the palate. This is the one to convince Reinheitsgebot enthusiasts that a five century old purity law does not guarantee good beer. One of the worst German beers I’ve had in recent memory.

Its been awhile since I had a German pilsner so I grabbed one to have after work tonight.Poured a dull lighter straw color with a large blooming white head that left multiple sheets on the pilsner glass as it settled slowly, toasty and bready aromas with a tinge of iron with not much hop presence just a passing whif of leaf.Flavors are toasted and crisp but lacks enough hop character to really round out the flavors well its is pretty refreshing though. It goes down easy and isnt to light but after one I would likely get bored with it.

A- clear light-golden with a medium-light head.
S- it's a bit chalky wit sour apples accompanied by a hint of floral hops.
T- light malts but really hopped up in terms of bitterness. The bitterness almost seems aggressive to the palate. Not much flavor comes through, a bit of sour apps and some yeasty bread notes. I do somehow like taste of the minerals, which are quite easy to detect.
M- the bitterness makes it refreshing on a hot day. but it is a little on the dry side for my tastes.
D- pretty drinkable, light in the belly indeed.
This is a beer they like to drink in northern deutschland, especially along the sea coasts- hence, the ship on the label. It is typical in deutscland that beers in the north are a bit more bitter, while beers become a sweeter further south.

What an odd little gem this was. Drunk out of the bottle at a bar deep in East Berlin called "Conmux" -- which in itself is another little gem. 0,33l short brown bottle, with a ceramic flip-top lid. Freshness date on the back.
As this was in the bottle, I couldn't really judge its appearance or smell, so I'll assume it's average for the style.
Flavours consisted of a thin sweetness, slick/oily hop bitterness that lent a cheesey, grassy and skunky edged character. Quite bitter all around with notes of salt and mineral, both in body and flavour.
A very unusual, and at first, odd beer ... but the stuff grows on you.

Pours clear, gold in color with 1/2 inch head. Taste is honey, cereal and grass. Light bodied, sweet with high carbonation. Makes for a delicious and clean German pilsner...Could have several.

Pours a clear yellow with a white head. The aroma is biscuit and pilsner malt with some light fruit and yeast. The flavor is pilsner malt with some hop bitterness and some spicy hop flavor. You also get some honey. High carbonation and thin-medium mouthfeel.

A: brilliant straw gold under a 1” sudsy white foam collar that grips the glass leaving thin sheets of lace.
S: Bread, a slight earthiness.
T: light bread leading to a moderate earthy hop bitterness on the finish.
F: Medium light body and medium carbonation.
O: A decent beer but other than the cute bottle, nothing really stands out to distinguish it.

This poured to a very light and pale golden yellow. The small head lasted well and left a nice curtain of lace behind.
The smell is pretty plain, if somewhat floral. The taste follows that same pattern, leaving some bitterness in the finish after the light malts up front. Some degree of pepper comes through as well. The mouthfeel is pretty light and it is easy enough to drink.

500ml, swing-top bottle, a pleasant-seeming new Teutonic line of brews now available in Alberta. The brewery name does seem like something off of Futurama, FWIW.
This beer pours a clear, rather pale golden straw colour, with four fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and yet chunky off-white head, which leaves some deeply layered sudsy lace around the glass as things evenly subside.
It smells of bready, doughy pale malt, white saltine crackers, soft earthy yeast, a bit of pome fruitiness, and gritty leafy, weedy, and grassy hops. The taste is testy grainy and crackery cereal-inflected pale malt, one almost bereft of any sweetness, some still middling yeast, an ethereal sense of yeasty acridity, and the same zesty leafy, herbal, and grassy hops from aroma renown.
The carbonation is quite heady and engaging in its probing and forceful frothiness, the body a so-so middleweight, and sort of smooth, like a sidewalk that doesn't draw blood when you unceremoniously faceplant upon it. Things finish barely off-dry, the grainy pale malt, a late-arriving gasohol astringency, and some sturdy 'n peppy noble hops carrying the day.
Overall, not bad, but hardly among the pantheon of incredibly better renderings of the style from said middle European country - ok, ok, GERRRRRMANNNY! (thank you, Rammstein). Easy to drink, though, if you approach this one in the same vein as one might the Granville Island, Pyramid, or Leinenkugel (and not just because the latter sounds so very German) offerings of our brave new brewing world.

Always drink it from the bottle - always served without a glass in Hamburg. Love it cold, refreshing, tasty, satisfying plop when you open the bottle. A favourite in St Pauli.
