Glad I had some spicy food around because this one is sweet. Huge nose of molasses, toffee and raisin. SRM 30, when you hold it up to the light you can see through the darkest ruby. Taste follows up with an immense amount of molasses, caramel and toffee with hazelnuts coming out more as it warms. Powerful dessert beer here.

Undated '16 bottle. Huge caramel / toasted marshmallow nose. Very sweet - it was too much for me. Nutty flavors follow, and the 10% is unmistakable. In this case, that wasn't a positive.

Poured into a 16 oz Troegs Snulip not sure when it was bottled. Pours a beautiful mahogany with a two finger off white head that leaves behind patches of sticky lace and takes its time settling into a thick ring off bubbles.

Smell is ameretto, toffee, vanilla bean, dates, brown sugar, and a hint of oak.

Taste follows ameretto, worthers candy, roasty brown sugar, dark fruit, and oaky vanilla.

Mouthfeel is almost large, moderate carbonation and it works wonderfully, maybe a little dry, and the fact that this is 10% ABV is surprising and sneaky.

Overall this is really, really good. Just want to crawl inside the glass and never come out. World class and very unique beer, that stands out. Thx @jzeilinger for sharing this American Old Ale with me.

Dark cola brown with a half finger fizzy head quickly dying to a thin ring.

Smell is nuts, becoming more clearly hazelnut after settling and slightly warming, with oak, raw pizza dough, and Tootsie Roll developing into peanut butter brownie as it warms.

Taste is fudgey hazelnut, with raisin, hot oak, bourbon and vanilla cola. A real sleeper, I can see why this just won FOBAB.

Medium body with full fizziness, finishing waxy.

A - Deep burgundy chestnut colored pour, clear in color, thick toffee colored lacing ring. Very low carbonation.

S - Toasted malt, hazelnut, vanilla, and creme.

T - Beer is on the sweeter side and nicely blended between hazelnut and vanilla creme with a very delicate and light bitter finish and some alcohol presence. There is also some slight nuttiness, breadiness, and a hint of cherries midway through.

M - Thick and full bodied, silky smooth, lip smacking sticky, dry on the back end.

O - Not a fan of Brown Ales but this one really works well. Kudos to Triple Digit.

From the growler via Jungle Jim's Eastgate. This nice brown ale pours a deep dark mahogany with a firm head of off white foam that settles to a thick ring, thin pool, and nice sudsy lacing. Nose of hazelnuts, vanilla, and dark sweet malts. Flavors surpass the nose with roasted hazelnut flavors on the front and sides mingling nicely with vanilla and roasted malts with a touch of breaded malts showing their way into the foray on the middle and back of the taste with light char notes on the aftertaste. Nice mouth feel, warming, coating, and full. Overall the flavors remind me more of a hazelnut infused dopplebock. That said it is a nice change of pace from the standard brown ale. Very sweet----this from a malt lover and not a hop head, that said this idea would work great with a nice dopplebock style with a less cloying sweetness level.

For what this beer, an imperial hazelnut brown ale, it's fantastic and the particular style is nailed. Amazing hazelnut aroma and a bit nutty. Same flavors in the taste with a nice amount of peanut butter roast and coffee creamer. Very drinkable but one you want to savor and enjoy over some time. Bravo!

So sweet and so good. Called a brown ale but seems darker to me.

12 Fl. Oz. bottle
Served in a snifter

This beer pours very dark brown in color with ruby highlights. It is topped with an inch of light tan head that leaves little lacing.

The smell is sweet form a metric shit ton of hazelnuts. I like it.

The taste is sweet and nutty. It is probably too sweet for some, but this beer really scratches my itch on a frigid spring night.

Full with low carbonation

I forgot how much I liked this beer. It has been entirely too long since I have last had it. I do not find it overly sweet. I enjoy it, but find it a little pricey for a ham and egger like me. It still a nice treat every once in a while.

The problem with this beer, for me, is its sticky artificiality. It's candy beer. And I don't mean that it's just sweet - many a barleywine or stout are quite sweet. I mean that it tastes about as real and complex as candy. The first few sips deliver the message - a werthers toffee like center, not a lot of malt character, hazelnut extract, a touch of vanilla perhaps - but it doesn't develop or gain intrigue beyond that. Finishing even half a bottle is tough.
