Near black color. Beige head with good beige, blanketing lace.

Unusual smell for an Imperial Stout, I get plenty of milk (lactose?) and cardboard. Secondarily, I get chocolate and black patent malts.

The flavor is very strong compared to the smell. The semisweet chocolate is in your face with lighter alcohol and coffee are present but subtle. The carbonation is soft, but body is also a little thinner than expected. It works. The finish is warming with a long mocha aftertaste.

A sweeter, more vinous Russian imperial than most examples of the style, but still a solid offering. Good herbal hop flavors to complement the sweetness. A touch of an artificial flavor on the finish that I can't quite identify.

Dark chocolate, heavily roasted malt, cocao and dark fruits. Bitter roasted malt finish. Medium to thick bodied. Warming. Woooooo. Big and boozy and delicious.

16oz undated (local new release) poured into a pint glass at fridge temp 12% ABV. The beer pours absolutely black with no highlights and abundant chocolate brown head. The head settles to a thick cap and leaves plenty of lacing. The aroma is bits of chocolate, coffee and tobacco. The taste is smooth bittersweet chocolate with a nice hoppy bitter finish. Mouthfeel is full bodied, well carbonated and mostly dry in the finish. This is a big beer that never goes sweet. Overall, very good. It's been a couple years since I've had this. I wanted to review it fresh and see if it was as good as I remembered. It is. This is the local beer that will go toe to toe with the big names.

Pours black with a 1 finger head. Aroma- grape juice, red wine, cherry, brown sugar, nutty, chocolate. Taste-dark chocolate, metallic flavors, some fruity flavors. Mouthfeel is pretty smooth and slick. Overall- I will re rate this again in case this is off or something. But it's like a stout mixed with red wine. Not terribly great.

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with some tan wispy lacing on the surface and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of dark malts and associated oak and vanilla from the bourbon are present in the nose.
T: As in the smell, the taste is dominated by flavors from the bourbon barrel aging and has lots of vanilla and oak.
M: It feels full-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is all about the bourbon, but you don't get much of the underlying stout. There are hints of alcohol burn in the finish.
