The General , steam engine extraordinaire, was hi jacked by Union spies. It took itʼs conductor William Fuller to chase them down and bring the train home. Our tribute to his bravery and balls, is a “courageous” take on the fruit porter. Raspberry. Cherry. Vanilla. This chocolate hero will chase you down too!

I had high hopes for this beer because I love red velvet cake. Unfortunately this tasted nothing like it. The beer poured a nice chocolate color with a good head but an odd amount of sediment for a porter. The taste was almost sour with very little chocolate notes. Overall, disappointing.

No label information. Courageous Conductor is brewed in the style of an American Porter, available in 12 oz. bottled 4 packs and on seasonal draft.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a snifter glass.

(Appearance) Pours a crisp, frothy head of a pale brown color over a very dark brown, near black body. Retention is average and lacing is light and patchy. 3.5

(Smell) Caramel malts, cocoa powder, rich residual sweetness. Fairly on-the-mark for a chocolate or red velvet cake, with an airy lightness to it. Some fruit, notably raspberry creates a mild acidity and tartness for an unusual spin on this ale. Potency is moderate. 3.75

(Taste) Similar flavor to the aroma, with rich chocolate and cocoa tones, undertones of caramel malt with a light, slightly tangy fruited finish of raspberry. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick, softly creamy, clean, medium dry. Carbonation is moderate, generating a medium frothiness and a moderately crisp finish. Body is medium+ for the style, medium overall. Balance is nearly even sweet to lightly bitter malt and tangy, lightly acidic finish. Alcohol presence is low and there are no off characters. 3.5

(Overall) A fairly enjoyable and well-balanced porter, although one might question how a "red velvet" porter may work out, and aside from the slightly rosy, fruited tangy finish, the majority of this beer is based around chocolate and caramel malts with an evident lightness and high drinkability. Regardless of its intentions, it's a respectable beer and a nice experiment by a very good brewery. 3.75

Pours a black color with a thin tan head, some lacing. Has sweet smells of chocolate and raspberry. When tasting the first thing that hits you is the strong raspberry flavor, damn that is good. Then coming thru is the malts and coffee. even my wife likes this and she dislikes my beers. LOL

Another solid offering from a great brewery. Pours dark with a light brownish head. Beer has a fantastic aroma of raspberry and chocolate which comes through in the taste. Very smooth feel from a great porter.

12 oz bottle poured into a lager glass.

Essentially black and opaque body, topped by a large, durable, light brown head. Some lacing is left on the glass.

Aroma: sweet, artificially flavored cake with raspberry most dominant.

Flavor: better than the aroma suggests, but still too much artificial (or seemingly so) flavor, mainly from raspberry. The overall flavor improved with warming, with the raspberry becoming more natural. Hints of vanilla and cherry with a faint dark bread. Too sweet and too much adjunct flavor, overpowering the dark roasted grain base.

Excellent mouthfeel with lively, but soft, carbonation.
