750ml capped bottle into Night Shift Reserve stemware. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a foamy 2 finger white head with poor retention. Beer is a crystal clear pale lemon. Lacing is stringy, webbed and patchy with great stick. Pretty nice. Good color.

Nose is sour wheat, funk, citrus, apple and metal. Moderately aromatic but not as funky or fruity as I would like.

Opens tart apple and pear. Pretty one dimensional. Some foam and a light plastic-y flavor in the middle with a mellow, pale yellow fruit end. Slightly sweet and sour finish. Lightly puckering but brief aftertaste. This one is pretty... blah.

Light bodied with ample carbonation. Dry and crisp in the mouth and goes down aggressive and sparkling. Finishes filmy and dry with a puckering aftertaste. Solid.

Not bad by any means but this is one of the more boring beers that I've had in the style. No real fruit characteristic and the sour is pretty one-dimensional.

Appearance: Super pale straw yellow-gold. Head is bright-white and soapy. Drops to a few wisps of cap with a slightly chunkier collar. Some splashes of lacing. Moderate carbonation on the pour. Moderate haze.

Smell: First hit is a smaller dose of what is now a very distinct lactic element from Night Shift. A push of soft blood orange with hints of vague other citrus. Some touches of lime. Malt base is super light with a touch of wheat. Some solid, but not overbearing lactic elements with a touch of something almost citric. Blood orange yogurt. A touch of biscuit and pale bready malt. Super clean.

Taste: Blood orange slides through the back of the almost yogurt-lactic tartness. Slightly sweet. Some pale malt sweetness as well. Some bready elements as well. Super soft push of yeast. Mild citric element but it's covered over by the lactic push. Blood orange is a bit subdued but it creeps out offering some hints of almost grapefruit with some lime juice. Hints of blood orange on the aftertaste. Wheat adds a bit more depth. Relatively clean. Some green apple.

Mouthfeel: Light body with minimal carbonation. Very slight astringency on the back. Smooth on the sip.

Overall: Guinevere should have stayed with Arthur.

Blood orange is magical, but this beer ends up losing most of the fruit's charm. The base weisse is actually a bit better than recent weisse iterations from Night Shift. The lactic element is dialed back a touch but blood orange really should have played a larger role.

Cheers to Goblinmunkey7 for sharing this

Consumed 4/10/15

A: Hazy, cloudy, medium gold with some straw and some orange tones - medium to large head, keeps a nearly solid cap, leaves a wall of lacing

S: Bread dough, Berliner funk and blood orange - nice amount of funk, with some lactic aromas - bread dough and sourdough starter - bright fruit aroma, with citrus - blood orange, light fruits, raspberry - pale malts, light bread, undercooked sourdough loaf, minimal sweetness

T: Funky and citrusy - blood oranges impart some nice citrus - tangerine, orange, ruby red grapefruit, raspberry, light fruit - some nice funk, mostly lactic - definitely tart - very bready, with bread dough - undercooked sourdough bread - some funky wheat as well - minimal bitterness, but some sweetness from the pale malts

M: Light body, nice carbonation, smooth, lingering tart

O: A weird breakfast

This tastes like undercooked bread with a few slices of blood orange. But that is not a bad thing. It's not the funkiest Berliner, but it's very interesting and quite impressive for a 3.5% ABV.

Golden yellow in color. Fairly hazy in appearance. Clean simple grain malt profile. A hint of tartness. Wishing for more blood orange flavor to push through. Light and wheaty.
