Named after a Bavarian city, this globally enjoyable hefeweizen sips with soft, fruity notes of banana, wheat, clove, and orange rind.

From the tallboy can dated 12/19/16, pours clear bright gold color with a lot of active carbonation and bubbles racing up the middle to a 2 finger foamy snow white colored head which was packed with bubbles and faded around average time. Sadly it's not cloudy looking at all.

Smells like a pilsner with plenty of malt and grains leading the way, followed by wheat, peppery spices, wet cardboard, faint lemon zest and biscuit. Pretty weak overall with no banana, bubblegum or clove. Smells similar to a macro brew.

Tastes of caramel, wheat and bread crust, then like the nose brings in sweet malt, roasted grains, light peppery spices, floral hops, lemon zest, wet cardboard, fresh cut grass and finally some banana. Finish is clean with a grainy sweetness, to me this seems more malty than wheat driven and the hops were just accents.

Overall a good beer, but nothing really special.

Okay - a few things I need to get out of the way here:

1) It's spring.

2) I love spring beers.

3) A German Hefeweizen should be perfect for spring.

4) This wasn't a true German Hefeweizen.

That being said, I did find this to be enjoyable, easy to quaff, and nicely made...even though the date on the bottom of this can read 12/19/16. Yes, it was old but it held up well and never felt aged, malted out, or skunked to me but it seemed more like an American Golden Ale more than anything else. If that's what you're looking for, then you've found your match here!

Gold, this was, as the pour had plenty of that with some bright brassiness thrown in for good measure. Enough foamy head topped this off as the lacing didn't quite measure up to that; from the scattered, thin collar on down. Lots of wheat, lemon, banana, and soap in the soft nose as none of those stood out in particular. The taste was much more "golden" as the body was weak and the hop profile was nearly impossible to discern. A mild citrus juiciness tied everything in together as nothing in particular stood out to me when it came to this beer.

The same could be said about the alcoholic content here as the 5.50% nearly qualified this as a session beer. Plenty of basic bread in the malt kept this balanced as a bit of bubblegum sweetness and mild clove lingered in the aftertaste once this was finished off. While not a bad beer, this paled in comparison to it's better German counterparts. Worth a go once if you like this style but with better examples out there, you'd be hard-pressed to go out of your way for this...

This did not taste good at all. Fuck, why did this have to be a tallboy? Metallic and nasty flavor. Decent abv at least, but not worth the bad taste at all.

Night Shift should stick to IPAs. This is a cloying hefeweizen. Drink Belgian ales if you want something fruity/spicy like this.

L: light haze, bright straw color with a copper tinge. Almost no head retention or lacing.

S: yeasty and banana and baking spices. Banana bread!

F: pretty flat mouthfeel, especially for a Hefeweizen. Leaves a syrupy slick on your tongue that I don’t love.

T: strong banana flavors. The bready quality in the nose disappears on the tongue, giving way to a sweet flavor reminiscent of a cherry syrup. Not getting the orange that the label says.

O: this is a less yeasty, more fruity Hefeweizen. Flavorful and agreeable enough to get this into the 4’s for me.
