Pours a pitch black with a light tan/off white head. The head dissipates fairly quickly, forming a nice ring around the glass.

Smell has a large vanilla presence on the nose right upfront. Roast comes through supporting the vanilla. Nice coffee undertones mingle with some bitter bakers chocolate. As the beer warms, the roast takes over for the vanilla. The smell is very similar to freshly roasted coffee grounds.

Taste is slightly bitter roasted coffee right off the bat. The roasty character of this is fresh cold press coffee, with nice subtle coffee flavors abounding. Slight caramel, chocolate, vanilla, and bitter coffee grounds.

Mouthfeel is similar to cold press coffee. Coats the tongue nicely despite a slightly thin body. The carbonation adds a slight bubble to it, and the beer finishes with a slight dryness.

Overall a great coffee porter. Rich, roasty character present throughout.

My first beer from Nightshift and I have to say, I was impressed. Big cocoa notes in the nose, roast character in the flavor along with some of that dusty powdered baking chocolate. Pretty well balanced, mouthfeel makes this beer pretty easy to drink in terms of the carbonation level providing some pricklyness but still preserving some smoothness. I noticed a large amount of sediment after rinsing the can, I assume this beer was unfiltered in order to preserve as many volatiles as possible. Bitter in the aftertaste but reserved enough to let that sweetness ride shotgun with it.

Picked up a can of this at Julio's. Canned on 1/5/16

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a nice dark dark brown hue with a fat 3 finger dark mocha head that fades very, very slowly to leave a thick rocky head with big side lacing.

S - Aromas of roasted malts, very light chocolate. Fair amount of coffee, real nice cold brew thing going on. Only knock is that the coffee does overpower most of the porter notes.

T - Taste is similar to the nose. Nice roasted malts and light milky chocolate. The coffee offers some nice bitterness and is not super overwhelming. There is a nice lightly sweeter cold brew type coffee flavour with just a little bit of faint vanilla on the finish.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated and creamy. Solid for the style.

O - Overall, this was a tasty coffee porter. Nice roasted malts with solid coffee. Only knock would be that I wish there was more chocolate.

Poured a beautiful dark chocolate color with a 3F head in an imperial pint glass. Some lacing.

As soon as I opened the can, I could smell the coffee. Very strong roasted coffee aroma, which lingers
throughout the tasting.

One of the strongest coffee presences in any beer I have tasted. There is light vanilla, and the cocoa
comes with warming.

The beer finishes with pronounced coffee flavor enhanced by a strong bitterness.

I haven't been a fan of Porters in the past. Awake and Eugene from Revolution Brewing bring the style to a whole new level.

Appearance - Pours dark, cola brown with a quarter finger head that fizzes away as nearly as fast as I pour it, settling to a mostly barren surface with a thin ring around the edge of the glass. No lacing.

Smell - Dark, earthy chocolate. Faint coffee. Booze.

Taste - Earthy bitterness. Dark, baker's chocolate overwhelms. Coffee is an afterthought. Also some astringent boozy notes in the finish.

Mouthfeel - Medium-bodied with low carbonation. Thins out quickly in the finish.

Overall - Maybe I got a bunk can (dated 06/21/16), but this seems oddly boozy in flavor for only 6.7%, and much more bitter, earthy chocolate than coffee flavor. Hmm.

A- Tallboy into a proper chalice with a black body and a nutty tan head. The foamy cap remains only for several moments dying to a medium ring. Spotty lace is sparse.

S- Almost all of the aromatics are from the coffee as the beans come through as fresh and medium roast, perhaps a shade towards dark roast. Cocoa comes to mind as well as general roast and toasted malts.

T- Coffee coffee and coffee. Domination by those roasted beans with espresso and a general charred but smooth quality. Most importantly it does not taste stale as the beans come down with freshness. Milk chocolate bars, caramel, vanilla sweets, brownie dessert, toasted nuttiness and a tiny bit of dark fruit. Not overly bitter, charred or acidic.

MF- Slightly past medium thickness for a body and the texture is foamy and somewhat frothy. The carbonation comes off as dialed back somewhat and it truly lets the coffee smoothness set in. Roasty bitterness lingers but not astringent at all.

Cup of joe in a tallboy with just enough cocoa and roasty malts to let things sail smoothly. Drinks so easily and I wish I had more for breakfast.

Pours pretty dark some light brown around the edges when held to the light, thumb sized tan head with decent lacing.

Aroma is surprise big on coffee, guess it comes form the name nice roasted profile some good chocolate and nut aromas also. Underlying bready and caramel hints of molasses and earthiness.

Taste is pretty spot on the nose good coffee notes, dark chocolate sweet caramel roasted goodness loaded with nuttiness lingering coffee bitterness and hoppy earthy bitterness to round it out. Flavor seems more intense then the 6% even if the feel isn't. Nice easy drinking favorable porter.

Mouthfeel is lighter medium feels lighter then it tastes for some reason. Carbonation is fairly peppy might add to the lighter feel.

Overall a good beer smells nice tastes good goes down easy and smooth. If I was a local I could see this being a go to beer.

Exactly as advertised: tons of dark chocolate, roasted bitter malt and dark coffee flavor. I'll bet this would be delicious barrel-aged but for a 6.7% abv porter it's quite tasty.

From a 16oz can, dated 02/20/17. Served in a nonic.

Pours thick and black, like cheap maple syrup. There's a long-lasting finger of soft, mocha foam that leaves thin, spotty lacing in its wake.

Smells of molasses, strong coffee and bitter herbs. Truly, I poured this colder than I ought to have and the nose is still bright enough to clear my sinuses.

The taste follows the nose with a strong character of molasses-sweetened bitter coffee, almost one-dimensionally until it warms a bit and brings out some roasty-toasty grain, caramel cream, cocoa and bitter herbs.

Feel is soft and mouth-coating, medium bodied and no more than adequately carbonated.

This is a substantial, full flavored, belly-filling coffee porter, with the emphasis on the coffee.
