Notes: It's time to rethink light beer. Right now there's too much overlap - bland flavors, redundant branding, macro-brewery after macro-brewery. You deserve better than this sea of sameness, and Nite Lite is our way to raise the light beer standard. An unfiltered, unpasteurized, all natural, craft light lager that everyone can get excited about.

Perfect for BBQs, tailgating before the game, hanging at the beach, enjoying a concert... you know the drill. Nite Lite is simple - light bodied and crisp - just as a light beer should be.

Canned 10/01/18. Been wanting to try this for a long time because I knew it would be incredible. A delicious beer in general, but within this style....bonkers, top notch, stellar. Massive credit to Night Shift for making such an approachable and satisfying beer in a seemingly difficult style to brew. Because with this style you can't mask quality with hops or additives/adjuncts (unless you're a macro brewery). Super crisp with drinkability off the charts, this beer has that grainy flavor and feel you expect but much fruitier and palatable and finished with a pleasant hop character. Tip of the cap to Night Shift! I hope the industry continues in this direction, slowly replacing the yellow garbage that passes as beer, and will slowly convert many of those drinkers who will eventually understand that you need to pay a little extra to get a lot more.

16 oz. can dated 01/05/17

Pours foggy straw yellow with a frothy white foam head. Smells like green apple, malty cereal grains, with floral grassy hops. Tastes like green apple, malty cereal grains, with floral grassy hops. Feels medium-light bodied, creamy and crisp with moderate carbonation. Overall a really nice light lager.

Consumed 7/20/17

A: Very pale gold - crystal clear - pours with a medium sized, fizzy white head, fades to a few spots of a head, retains a small collar, leaves some streaks of lacing

S: Remarkably mild - there is not much going on here, but that is more or less the point of the style - some light cracker and a touch of grain - some lager yeast, touch of spice - some grassy and herbal notes from the hops - light sweetness and a maybe a hint of corn - not detecting any off-aromas

T: As mild as the aroma, but also as seemingly devoid of flaws as the aroma - crackers, light bread, touch of toast - some lager yeast, touch of spice, pepper, clove - some grass and herbal notes - some light cereal grain sweetness and a very light touch of green apple - crisp, clean finish

M: Light body, medium carbonation, immaculately crisp finish

O: I unironically like this

Nite Lite is a hard beer to actually assign a rating. It is a craft-brewed light lager. Most breweries wouldn't even bother trying to make one worth drinking. That being said, this is just about the best American Light Lager I have had. But I'm not sure if I would necessarily buy it again. Hmmm...

Update, 4/28/18: Yes, I bought it again. And I will continue to buy it. It's so simple, clean, and drinkable. It's perfect for many situations and particularly great for warmer weather. I've updated scores because this is a heavy hitter in a style full of pushovers.

I based my ratings on drinking a light lager (not an IPA) and how I perceived this beer versus drinking a Bud Light, for example; I really loved it at the end of the night, nice easy drinking, lots of aroma and flavor for the style; best way I can describe this beer is eating a homemade burger versus a mass produced McBurger

16 oz can dated 1/5/17 (3 months old)

Pours a a crystal clear straw gold color with lots of fizz but a thin, soft head. Aroma is apple - almost like a hard cider but the grain scent comes through enough to dispel the notion. Taste is all grain with a hint of sweetness behind it and maybe a bit of the apple comes through. Feel is very light and crisp and effervescent. I swore off crappy "American" supermarket lagers a long time ago so this is tough to love but it is a hundred times better than the swill that's mass produced in this style. Its what happens when the brewer puts care and time and good ingredients into the process. 'nough said!

I stayed at a youth hostel in nearby Everett during a recent visit to Boston & it was in close proximity to Night Shift Brewing so I paid a visit during my visit. I was really taken by their owl logo since my late Pops had an affinity for owls, plus the logo was from a Lite Brite board, making it even cooler! Jeff Lebo will get the spent CAN, but in the meantime, this beer furthers The CANQuest (tm)!

From the CAN: "Craft Light Lager"; "Share the Night".

I did a bottom-opening since this was kind of special, so there was no Crack! & the Glug was kind of a dribble. Either way, it still formed nearly two fingers of fizzy, foamy, bone-white head with decent retention. Color was Pale-Straw (SRM = 1 - 2) with NE-quality clarity. Nose had a light bready malt sweetness, but not much in terms of hops or bitterness. Mouthfeel was thin-to-medium. The taste was pleasant enough, kind of sweetish, very clean and lager-like with no crappy adjuncts getting in the way. Finish was crisp, dry & definitely refreshing on a hot, humid Summer's day. I was told at the brewery that this is their answer to requests for B/M/C products by unenlightened customers, but this was better than those types of beers. This would be a great buncha CANs to put in the beach-bound cooler if you were looking for a tastier alternative to a macro CAN.

16 oz can poured into a pint. ($6.99/4-pack)

A - Pale straw, crystal clear. Pours about a 1/4 inch head that recedes quickly. Light lacing, big effervescent bubbles.

S - sweet grain, faint corn

T - cereal grains are most prevalent. Light hint of sweet corn. Nothing offensive.

M - super refreshing light, clean, lots of carbonation.

O - I was skeptical, but this is a really really nice, light lager. It’s good, it’s worthy, it’s great for watching playoff hockey.

Pint can poured into a pilsner glass.

Appearance: Clear straw with a big white head.

Aroma: Clean. Some grass, some biscuit. (My wife also uses the lip of this glass to make biscuits, so there’s that.) Faint hop.

Taste: A very clean, crisp lager with a nice hop note along with cereal grains and cut grass.

Mouthfeel: Super drinkable. Great beer to pair with pizza.

Overall: Really impressive flavor and drinkability for a light lager. Can’t beat the price point, either. Great stuff.

This beer pours a sickly pale piss yellow color, one of the worst pours I have ever seen, literally looked clear pouring it out of the can. This beer also honestly had a gross stale smell. The taste redeems this brew somewhat, because it achieves its goal of being a decent light beer, honestly would prefer a miller lite than to pay more for a “craft” light beer such as this.

Dated 4/17/18 on the bottom of the can, 10 days old.

Pours a crystal clear super pale straw with half a finger of rapidly dissipating white head. Nose is very mild, as expected of the style but not off-putting. Besides pale sweet grain and hay, I was also able to pull out notes of cereal, grass and the faintest green apple. Taste follows the nose, crisp and refreshing, very mild, but unlike most light lagers I've tried, not in any way offensive. Light spritzy mouthfeel with an crisp easy aftertaste of the pale grain + green apple. Overall a wonderful light lager, probably the only one I've had that I could say I didn't find offensive. I'd take this of any other light lager I've tried, but not over any other style.

Pours a pretty light gold, unfiltered and so not translucent. Nice bubbly head that holds up for a good bit. Very enticing.

Aroma is soft, grainy and with a generic pre-craft beer American beer smell. I like that smell.

This is everything you would in a light beer. Plenty of flavor. Each sip begs for the next. Goes down fast and fun.

I will buy more. I want more. Wish I had gotten around to this in the summer.
