My local bottle shop seems to every now and then bring in some interesting foreign beers and usually for some decent prices, found this one the other day when I popped in to resupply. The Cyrillic font on the front initially led me to think it was Russian, but it's actually a Serbian lager. It wasn't until I got home however that I noticed the Best Before Date on it is 13/3/21, and today is 27/8/21. Hopefully it's not too bad, being in a can it should be fine. Next time i'll check the BB dates on these obscure beers so I don't pay full price for an out of date beer:
Appearance: Looking like a standard European lager/Pilsner. Straw golden and completely clear and filtered. A soapy white head that's dissipating rather quickly to a foamy slick on top. Looks refreshing enough. Looks like a lager.
Smell: Sweet honey initially and something that smells vaguely like burnt toast. Has a slight vegemite smell to it. Strong grain smell as well. On the list of ingredients on the can, the only ingredient listed is barley malt. No water, no hops. Definitely has an alcohol smell to it as well. Did they drop a shot of Rakija in this?
Taste: Very strong malted barley sweetness, that almost comes across like honey. Notes of corn, and cereal grain. Back end of the sip has a spicy hop finish. It's only 4.8% but can taste a bit of alcohol. Not sure if it's kept fermenting being out of date.
Feel: Fairly smooth, Decent mouthfeel, highly carbonated. Pretty easy drinking.
Overall: Was hoping for something a little bit more crisp and refreshing like a Dutch lager, but it's not bad. A little sweeter than I normally like my lagers, but would be worth getting a few for a BBQ, or sitting around a campfire.

New arrival at Sandy's Deli. 16 oz. can.
Slightly hazed saturated golden color, two fingers of fluffy meringue foam that leaves behind a halo of drippy lacing. Lasting head retention and a steady stream of slow rising champagne carbonation.
Biscuity bready aroma at first, light honeyed malt with well water minerality dominating. Bready malt flavor, somewhat buttery but pleasant and fairly delicate. Slight bite to the finish. Light bodied with a supple smooth feel. Crisp and dry finish. Overall a pleasant beer, simple but nuanced.
Edit: 11.2 oz. brown bottles, BBD "FF1708".
Subsequent bottles haven't been as fresh, and somewhat off tasting. Cooked corn, diacetyl, tart, metallic. Stick to the cans. 2.75
