Misc.: Crowled on Nov. 22, 2017

Made the stop at Monkish before a trip to Manhattan Beach for Thanksgiving. I was 23rd in line, but it actually moved pretty quickly. Picked up this, Xylophone Tones and a Tripel for my father-in-law. Board called it a “Double-dry hopped DIPA with Citra, Nelson and Galaxy.” I called it a New England Style with Citra, Nelson and Galaxy. Was really looking forward to it.

Poured a pale hazy color with one finger of fizzy off-white head. Average lacing. Decent retention. (Sight - 3.50)

Smelled Nelson, Galaxy and Citra in order. Also floral, peach blossom, stone fruit, melon, guava, mandarin, cantaloupe and dry pineapple. (Smell - 4.50)

Wow on the taste. So damn good. Nelson, Galaxy and Citra blended perfectly. Also apricot, peach blossom, stone fruit, guava, melon and passion fruit. (Taste - 4.75)

Medium body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, juicy finish. (Feel - 4.50)

This was world-class. Probably the best New England Style beer I’ve tried. (EDIT: Statistically it was). (Overall - 4.50)

Canned 10/21/16. Consumed 11/21/16.

A: Beer pours a thick straw gold color with about a finger of soft white head that very quickly fades to a thin ring of tiny bubbles. In the glass, this thing is full on hazy. Not that semi-translucent, some-light-coming-through kinda haze... I'm talking milky, turbid, pineapple juice in a glass. Murky as hell.

S: Tons of grapefruit and overripe peach up front. It's juicy as hell, not astringent at all. Little bit of lime, pineapple, passionfruit, maybe some more exotic fruits like guava, lychee. Beneath the intense bouquet of fruity goodness, there's a delicate earthy character, something grassy, herbal, but not particularly bitter or pithy.

T: Holy crap, that is delicious. This might be the most balanced NE-style DIPA I've had, perfectly straddling the line between the east coast juice bomb and the pithy, bitter west coast take on the style. Up front, I get loads of fresh peach, grapefruit, and passionfruit with some sweet lime juice squeezed on top. It's intensely explosive on the flavor, almost overwhelming in how fruity it is. It's not overly sweet or candy-like; more like ultra fresh, farmer's market fruit juice. I also get a bit of that vanilla-creamiscle note I sometimes pick up from Galaxy. Underlying all that is a very light white bready malt--almost like the white fluffy inside of French bread--just enough to carry the beer along and deliver those hops. On the finish, this awesome pithy grapefruit note emerges and just dries the juicy sweetness right out, perfectly balancing the overall taste and leaving you ready for another sip, despite the overwhelming assault of flavor.

M: Ultra creamy and thick, truly juice-like. This is one of the fullest mouthfeels I've had on a DIPA. Comparable to some of the Tree House DIPAs, but full in a different way--it has more weight, less effervescence, and more oily slickness. Carbonation is there, but very muted--light and very soft. Oh, and that 8.1% is completely hidden.

O: This is one of the best Monkish beers I've had so far and a wonderful showcase of what they can do with three of my favorite hops. The Galaxy and Citra are really the stars of the show here, offering a tremendous assortment of tropical and citrus fruit that perfectly complement each other. There's an awesome balance of juicy sweetness and pithy bitterness that--along with some dryness from the Nelson maybe?--makes this supremely drinkable. The flavor profile actually reminds me a TON of One from Sand City, but Foggier has a slightly thicker and slicker feel. The fact that this beer is this explosive on the nose/flavor at 1 month in makes me seriously question how good beer can be...

This is about as close to perfection as it can get. Pours a hazy yellow light orange with anew amazing danky funky aroma. Taste has an amazing dank burst with a great citrus and funky hop balance. Outstanding mouthfeel. Overall an amazing beer that surpasses very high expectations. Definitely holds up to any IPAs from not only NE but around the world.

fresh can (7/21) drank on 7/27/17

pretty heavy DIPA but this is truly spectacular. A tropical bomb with slight bitterness. Complex and flavorful, drinkable too. Will seek future batches out as well

4.5 across the board. Pours a hazy light yellow with minimal head. Nose is slightly tropical with citrus and floral mingling in. Taste of fresh cut pinnaple, orange juice and light grapefruit pith. A bite dank with notes of floral a subtle hints of pale malts. Medium body with a slight bitter dry finish.
